Global Regulatory Affairs Manager
Do you see yourself actively contributing to the future of construction in a company that leads the market in sustainable indoor living? We’re looking for you if you bring experience with building regulation, are motivated by analysing building regulation and working with advocacy activities on technical legislative proposals around the globe focusing on topics such as energy, daylight, overheating and ventilation to drive a holistic approach to buildings. You will be driving activities as part of a global team in close collaboration across the organisation and representing VELUX in various forums. Your challenges:
As Global Regulatory Affairs Manager you will be responsible for pursuing VELUX strategic advocacy goals, through:
- Representing VELUX interests in specific committees of trade organizations and other associations.
- Join local Public Affairs colleagues for in-person dialogues with national authorities, associations, academics, or other relevant stakeholders. Engage in dialogs with local authorities, associations, academics, or other relevant stakeholders in the markets without a local Public Affairs presence, either in your own capacity or through agencies.
- Act as the spokesperson for VELUX during external events when regulatory or technical background is required.
- Support our Brussels team in understanding technical aspects of EU directives and regulations.
- Represent VELUX or industry associations in working groups or industry forums organized by the Commission and other policymakers.
- Ensure VELUX position is represented within trade organizations and similar stakeholder associations
Further, you will advise internal stakeholders and streamline cooperation:
- Provide technical expertise and support to Public Affairs colleagues.
- Understand and analyse building regulations (e.g., energy codes, building codes) to identify risks or opportunities for VELUX.
- Draft technical legislative proposals in line with VELUX strategy and national activity plans.
- Support regulative Public Affairs activities on an ad hoc basis in markets without a local Public Affairs presence.
- Create the foundation and framework for starting Public Affairs activities in new markets by analysing local regulations.
- Deep dive into calculation methods (e.g., energy compliance tools) and understand their impact on VELUX products and topics of interest (energy, daylight, overheating, ventilation).
- Be the go-to person for technical building regulations and optimize resources by reusing successful argumentations and proposals across countries.
- Provide responses to public consultations and draft argumentations and proposals that support VELUX business.
Your Qualifications
The following knowledge, skills and experience are needed to succeed in this role:
- Translating topics for non-experts: showing strong skills in popularizing technical topics (e.g. thermal engineering, building design, indoor climate simulation…) or complex concepts (structure and interconnection of legislations…)
- Understanding our external stakeholders: Preferably through having worked with or for governments or industry associations.
- Understanding our business: Thorough understanding of the building industry.
- Strategic mindset: Looking ahead to future opportunities and risks and translating these into a structured plan.
- Ability to manage stakeholders: Anticipating and balancing the needs of multiple internal and external stakeholders
- Building trust: Gaining the confidence and trust of others through honesty, integrity, and authenticity
- Excellent English language skills (both spoken and written)
- Master’s degree and more than 5 years’ work experience post-graduation
- Desirable: an understanding of the regulatory and supervisory landscape that VELUX operate under.
