The Mads Clausen Institute offers a 3-year position as an assistant professor for applied micro- and nanotechnologiers to strengthen the research and teaching activities in these areas at the faculty of engineering, University of Southern Denmark (SDU). The Mads Clausen Institute covers research and education from foundations to engineering science applications. Most of our courses are taught in English, reflecting that more than half of our students and staff are internationals. SDU NanoSYD, with about 30 coworkers, is located at SDU's beautiful campus in Sønderborg, in the inspiring building of Alsion, which is a Centre for science, culture and learning in the heart of Sønderborg and perched on the strait of water separating the island of Als from the mainland. The university has very close relations with industries in Sønderborg, Southern Denmark and Northern Germany.
The assistant professor is expected to contribute to or lead research and publication activities in advanced micro- and nanomachine assembly, development of optically driven nanosystems or polymer/metal/semiconductor nanoparticle devices for various application areas. She or he will also teach courses within relevant teaching programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and PhD levels and supervise corresponding students and postdoctoral researchers.
The ideal candidate has experience both in relevant science and technology and is in a position to attract funding through national and international research programs, including industrial project partners.
Requirements and qualifications:
- PhD degree in engineering or physics.
- Documented teaching experience in engineering and/or physics curricula.
- Successful research and development dissemination in international scientific journals.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
Fulfillment of many of the following qualifications is preferred:
- Expertise in advanced optical microscopy and charged particle microscopy
- Expertise in nanoscale chemical imaging and spectroscopy.
- Expertise in nanoparticle-based systems
- Expertise in manipulating matter on a nanoscale
- Ability to attract funding through national and international research programs

Conditions of employment
Appointment as an Assistant Professor is temporary and for an initial 3-year period.
During employment, the assistant professor will complete the Lecturer Training Programme.
Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations for academics in the state with the associated circular on the protocol for the job structure for academic staff at Danish universities and the provisions for assistant professor as described herein. The assessment and evaluation process

To qualify for the position as Assistant Professor you must have obtained a PhD degree by the employment date.
