Senior Fluid Systems Engineer
Design systems & processes for advanced nuclear with global experts
At Saltfoss Energy we are developing a nuclear power plant concept fundamentally different from what exists today. By bringing to market an advanced molten salt reactor we are making nuclear an inexpensive, sustainable, and scalable technology that can make fossil fuels a thing of the past and revolutionise energy markets. The opportunity to make an impact on climate change and provide millions of people with cheap and accessible energy is what inspires all of us every day.
Creating an innovation that can impact the world isn’t easy and requires a diverse team bringing together a range of talents and perspectives. We know that we cannot do this alone, so we work closely with regulators, shipyards, academic institutions, and the nuclear industry from all over the world to develop technologies and materials so we can produce an advanced floating nuclear power plant.
This is your chance to become part of a collaborative research environment where you can chart an uncommonly diverse career and help change the world. Saltfoss’ work environment allows for great influence, the possibility to take on responsibility, and personal growth but also demands flexibility.
THE ROLE
We are looking for a Senior Fluid Systems Engineer who will be responsible for the design of systems used in our Molten Salt Reactor. You will be an integral part of the Engineering department and will interface and collaborate with teams of physicists, engineers, and chemists, both internally as well as externally with technical partners, sub-suppliers, and regulatory stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS
- Design reliable and safe systems and sub-systems from requirements through to final design and verification such as the fuel salt or off-gas system.
- Identify, analyse and effectively apply regulatory criteria and standards to complex system & process designs.
- Produce and review technical design documents, such as System Design Descriptions, Design Data Sheets, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), for key components (tanks, valves, heat exchangers, pumps) and key instruments (temperature, flow rate, level).
- Produce and review specific sections of the Preliminary Safety Analysis Report.
- Produce and review process design calculations including Heat Mass balances and hydraulic calculations.
- Prepare test requirements for separate and integral test facilities.
- Collaborate with other disciplines such as mechanical design, instrumentation & controls, and neutronics to identify and/or develop equipment design information and specifications.
PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
- MSc. or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g. nuclear engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering).
- 6+ years’ experience in the design of fluid or process systems.
- Experience working in the nuclear industry, in the design and licensing of nuclear power plants.
- Experience with software tools such as Dymola for fluid system modelling.
- Experience managing projects with internal and external team members.
- Experience with high-temperature fluid systems or similar demanding environments is an advantage.
PERSONAL COMPETENCIES
- You are a team player and able to interact with, listen to, and understand specialists and managers in a wide variety of technical disciplines. Saltfoss’ success depends on our ability to work together.
- You are motivated and curious to learn about new topics and perform new tasks.
- You creatively approach and overcome design problems, while retaining motivation over multiple design iterations.
- You are capable and willing to speak up and raise opinions, especially about potential pitfalls, and concerns, but also commit to decisions.
- You have a patient demeanor with a willingness to explain, justify, negotiate, and provide guidance.
- You have a strong attention to detail and quality. A finisher at heart.
WHAT WE OFFER
- The chance to work on ground-breaking technology that will impact the global energy landscape.
