Process Chemist

PROCESS CHEMIST WITH FLAIR FOR PROJECT MANAGEMENT
LEAD AND SUPPORT GROUND-BREAKING MOLTEN SALT EXPERIMENTAL CAMPAIGNS
Do you become energized by doing something out of the ordinary and do you see yourself thrive in a start-up environment? Do you like to use your skills to design and build test equipment while being aware of the need for critical documentation? Then you might be the one we are looking for!

At Seaborg Technologies we are developing a nuclear power plant concept fundamentally different from what exists today. By bringing to market an advanced and innovative molten salt reactor technology we are making nuclear an inexpensive, sustainable, and safe technology that can out-compete fossil fuels and revolutionise energy markets. The opportunity to make an impact on climate change and provide billions of people with cheap and accessible energy is what motivates all of us every day.

Creating an innovation that can impact the world isn’t easy and it requires a truly diverse group of people with the best of what humanity can offer. We know that we cannot do this alone, so we work closely with regulators, shipyards, academic institutions, and the nuclear industry all over the world to develop and identify needed technologies and materials so we can produce an advanced floating nuclear power plant.

This is your chance to become part of a collaborative research environment where you can chart an uncommonly diverse career and help change the world.

The start-up environment allows for great influence, the possibility to take on responsibility and grow but also demands flexibility.

THE ROLE
The Process Chemist with flair for project management is responsible for leading and supporting the execution of experimental campaigns with molten salt in small scale pilot set-ups. In the R&D Department, our Laboratory Team is responsible for upscaling benchtop molten salt chemistry experiments, focusing on establishing key capabilities within design, commissioning, and control and delivering quality process data to understand the chemical processes, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics in molten salts. In this role, you will design, commission, and operate molten salt flow loops and other custom test rigs, and be involved in the entire project life cycle, from scoping to reporting. The chemical technology testing feeds directly into the verification and validation of molten salt reactor concepts and contribute to Seaborg's final product design and operation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

  • Plan, manage and execute chemical engineering R&D on in-house built test rigs, from scoping to decommissioning.
  • Translate scientific objectives into engineering requirements for test rig design and operations.
  • Ensure safety of the experimental equipment by producing safety documentation, such as risk assessments and HAZOP
  • Support validation and verification activities of our chemical technology and provide recommendations for design choices, manufacturing procedures, equipment and sensor selection.
  • Procure components and assembly services.

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES

  • You hold a Master’s degree or higher education within chemical engineering, process engineering or similar technical education.
  • You have 3-5 years of practical experience with operational project work in an R&D organisation on commissioning and running small scale chemical research pilots.
  • You have experience with process chemistry and have been involved in converting lab scale equipment to prototype pilots, including handling equipment like flowmeters, valves, and pumps.
  • You can identify, analyse, and solve complex problems related to chemical processes.
  • You have experience in making safety protocols, and follow regulations, and environmental standards applicable to chemical processes. This includes risk assessment, hazard identification, and implementing measures to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • You can manage projects effectively, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Knowledge of high temperature process chemistry or thermodynamic and kinetic studies is an advantage.
  • Experience with molten salt chemical processes is an advantage.

PERSONAL COMPETENCES

  • You effectively collaborate with lab technicians, specialists, and engineers to solve technical and operational challenges.
  • You have a high sense of responsibility and accountability.
  • You have good organisational and time-management skills and can handle multiple tasks in parallel.
  • You are skilled in short- and long-term planning of experimental campaigns.
  • You are dedicated and used to producing quality work of the highest standard and reproducibility.
  • You are willing to learn, teach and work in a young, rapidly developing team.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • The chance to work on a ground-breaking technology that will impact the global energy landscape.
  • Working closely with globally acknowledged experts in the field.
  • An international and diverse team.
  • Personal and professional development opportunities and support.
  • Informal and flexible work environment.
