Your team You will be part of the Design and Digital Division in the Directorate General Communications. Our Division is responsible for the ECB’s digital communications, including web development, digital content creation and management of social media channels. We also coordinate the production and distribution of statutory and expert publications and create audio/visual communications products for the ECB’s websites.

We are seeking talented, creative and innovative individuals to join our Design team, which is responsible for designing, developing and maintaining the ECB’s visual communications strategy, corporate design and brand identity. Our ideal candidate is a restless creative thinker, lives and breathes digital, embraces challenge and cherishes innovation. You will be part of a team of creative people from a variety of backgrounds, with whom you will work to develop visual communications solutions.

Your role As a Design Specialist you will:

  • conceptualize, design, prepare and deliver various types of visual material for all ECB digital platforms (e.g. websites and social media), in line with the ECB’s visual style guides;
  • create innovative and creative graphic design solutions (illustrations, infographics, visual branding, visual posts, motion graphics, etc.) for the ECB’s various digital channels;
  • contribute to maintaining and refining the ECB’s visual identity across all digital platforms, applying technical expertise to the development of compelling digital communication products as well as templated solutions that even non experts at the ECB may use to produce visually certified content in decentralized format;
  • deploy strong interpersonal, technical and storytelling skills to bridge the gap between experts and the general public through high-impact, accessible digital products;
  • collaborate closely with various internal and external stakeholders (including external creative agencies and contractors) to deliver according to time plan, creative briefings and guidelines you prepare, visual solutions that match respective requirements and contribute to the design process from concept to delivery;
  • proactively research and pursue creative concepts and ideas that will contribute to the ECB’s visual communications strategy, including by using analytics to inform decision-making.

Qualifications, experience and skills Essential:

  • a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in digital communications, graphic design, product design, web design, motion graphics, illustration, advertising or another relevant field (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences);
  • in addition to the above, at least two years’ proven experience in digital communications, graphic design, product design, web design, motion graphics, illustration and/or advertising, with a proven track record of producing high quality visual products and working successfully in a team;
  • proven graphic design expertise demonstrated by a strong portfolio showcasing relevant design projects (including web design, motion graphics, printed publications, social media, illustration, brand identity, infographics and data visualization and/or visual storytelling productions);
  • proficiency in graphic design, motion graphics and the use of graphic design software, including, but not limited to, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, etc.);
  • a keen eye for aesthetics combined with sound knowledge and understanding of fundamental key design principles, logo design, visual branding concepts and strategies, and the latest design styles and audio-visual trends;
  • conceptual thinking, creative problem-solving and strong organisational and presentation skills;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired:

  • a master’s degree or equivalent in digital communications, graphic design, product design, web design, motion graphics, illustration and/or advertising;
  • previous experience working in an international environment;
  • sound understanding of visual communications strategies for prominent private and/or public institutions, covering a variety of topics.

Working modalities You may occasionally be required to work outside standard working hours and be on-call during weekends and public holidays.

Further information Temporary appointments may be extended or made permanent subject to organisational needs and budgetary constraints. This may result in a staff member with a non-convertible fixed-term contract being offered a convertible contract in accordance with the ECB Conditions of Employment.

The contract(s) offered will be fixed-term, the appointment being for 12 months as of the exact starting date of the selected person.
