The Department of Clinical Epidemiology, Department of Clinical Medicine, Arhus University invites applications for a position as Postdoc in the field of biostatistics as per 1 September 2024. The position is a fixed-term full-time position for 4 years.

The Department of Clinical Epidemiology is a research department at Aarhus University Hospital, within the Institute of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University. Researchers in the department use advanced epidemiological methods to study different topics related to health research. The department is engaged in a variety of activities regarding epidemiological research, including mental health research. Furthermore, the department is involved in counselling health care professionals to improve the quality of health care and treatment. A large number of projects in the department are carried out in cooperation with Danish and international collaborators. The position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to high-quality international research while collaborating with experts in the field. While primarily research-oriented, this role may also involve teaching assignments. We are seeking candidates proficient in applied statistics, data management, and experienced in SAS and R programming. As part of this position, you will collaborate with researchers from Department of Environmental Health Sciences, Yale School of Public Health (YSPH), CT, USA. Your job responsibilities
Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Conduct independent research of exceptional international quality, with a focus on clinical epidemiology and biostatistics.
  • Develop algorithms in SAS and R to implement target trial emulation designs and analyses.
  • Conduct simulation studies to evaluate and refine methodological approaches.
  • Employ validation techniques to ensure the accuracy and reliability of developed algorithms.
  • Lead multi-country research projects in pharmacoepidemiology, specifically evaluating the utilization patterns and the safety of Upadacitinib treatment.
  • Provide teaching and mentoring to students in target trial emulation and algorithm development.
  • Active participation in courses and conferences.
  • Collaborate closely with researchers from YSPH, including an on-site collaboration requirement at the institution.

Your competences
You have academic qualifications at PhD level, with a master within statistics or mathematics. In order to be assessed as qualified for a Postdoc position, you must meet these academic criteria.

We anticipate that you possess the following qualifications:

  • Proficiency in applied statistics, data management, and programming in SAS and R.
  • Experience in causal inference methods and conducting epidemiological research at an international level.
  • Demonstrated experience with international collaboration, fostering effective communication and cooperation across diverse teams and cultures.
  • Familiarity with Danish healthcare registries for data management.
  • Strong interest in improving existing methods and software, as well as implementing new techniques.
  • Research experience in pharmacoepidemiology.
  • Experience with simulations and validation of algorithms.

Terms of employment

  • Appointment as a postdoc requires academic qualifications at PhD level.
  • Further information on the appointment procedure can be found in the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities.
  • The appointment is in accordance with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (Akademikerne).
  • Remuneration is in accordance with the above, and the Salary agreement catalogue for staff at Health.
  • The yearly base salary for a fulltime postdoc is between DKK 484.214,84 and DKK 538.720,20 depending on the years of working experience after achieved MSc degree. The base salary includes a position related supplement and pension (17.1 %). Additional supplement(s) for special qualifications can be negotiated. Authorisation supplemement(s) will be granted, if relevant for the position. Your local eligible trade union representative at Aarhus University negotiates your salary on your behalf.
  • Researchers recruited from abroad are offered a special researcher tax scheme with a lower tax rate.
