The University seeks to appoint an associate professor to the Biotech Research & Innovation Centre to commence as soon as possible. The selected candidate will be affiliated with the Wennerberg Group. The Group’s focus is on discovering precision cancer therapies targeting the cancer cells that survive current therapies and eventually cause the cancer relapse. To accomplish this, the Group explores functional studies of cancer cell cultures and how different subpopulations respond to different treatments.To this end, the candidate will focus on coordinating the development of an ovarian cancer organoid biobank and its application in various collaborative research projects conducted within the Group.

Job description
The successful candidate will drive the development of the OvaCure Collection – an open biobank of ovarian cancer organoid models - and will focus on running a research program utilizing this resource. The candidate will bridge collaborative projects involving ovarian cancer organoids, focused on drug resistance and functional precision medicine.

The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
  • Academic assessments

Required qualifications
To be qualified for an associate professor position, you will be assessed according to these six overall criteria for recognising merit at the University of Copenhagen: Research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding, and leadership. Furthermore, each applicant must be able to document:

  • Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc, but may also be obtained in other ways
  • Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
  • Research-based teaching
  • Strong background in ovarian cancer research·
  • Track record in driving research projects focused on cancer organoids, including method optimization, organoids development, biobanking, drug screening, and high-content imaging.
  • Experience in building and managing in-house and external biobanks

The associate professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communication skills.

Terms of employment
The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 2 years.

The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2025.
