Postdoc for the Centre of Maritime Health and Society

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoc to join our interdisciplinary team focused on advancing knowledge in Work Environment Studies in the maritime domain. The successful candidate will conduct innovative research examining various aspects of work environments, including but not limited to organizational culture, occupational health and safety, psycho-social work environments, remote work arrangements and work-life balance. The position will be available from October 1, 2024 (or as soon as possible thereafter) to September 30, 2027.

Research environment
The Centre of Maritime Health and Society (CMSS) was established in 1992 and offers a broad cross-disciplinary research environment. It is our aim to create high-quality research which is relevant to the maritime industry, and which contributes to and competes with international maritime research. There are currently eleven employees, all of whom work within research disciplines relating to health and safety in the maritime domain. CMSS is currently revising its Strategy Plan 2025-2029, which includes efforts to maintain the Centre’s position of having publications with a strong impact in maritime research internationally and in Denmark, and close relations to stakeholders within the offshore, fisheries and shipping sectors.

CMSS has good relations with the Unit of Health Promotion Research and the Department of Sociology, Environmental and Business Economy, all of which are located on the university’s Esbjerg campus. CMSS has recently received a very positive external evaluation, and we will continue to build on this and the recommendations for further development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting empirical research in the field of work environment studies relevant to the Strategy plan of the research unit. Current research project participation may include our Maritime Culture Lab project.
  • Publishing research findings in high-impact journals and presenting at conferences. including dissemination to the maritime industry, contributing to the visibility of CMSS.
  • Contributing to national and international grant writing and securing funding for future research initiatives.
  • Delivering pre- and post-graduate teaching (for example, master level courses in Work environment studies) and supervision of bachelor, master students at SDU and maritime academies.
  • Collaborating with team members at CMSS and stakeholders to develop research and development and a positive research environment at the Centre.
  • Building collaborations with researchers from other SDU departments, and other universities at home and abroad.
  • Develop, carry out, and publish the results of research projects, and disseminate the information among maritime stakeholders

Qualifications

  • A PhD-degree in Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, Organizational behavior or a related field.
  • A Strong background in research methodologies, including qualitative methods (NVivo) is essential.
  • Experience in quantitative methods and/or experience with data analysis software is desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Danish and English.
  • Track record of publishing research in peer-reviewed journals is preferred.
  • Prior experience in work environment studies or related fields is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse team environment.

Salary and terms of employment
The successful applicant for the position will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).´
