Work with international front-runners in development of methods for assessing environmental sustainability performance of products and technologies: A postdoc position is offered for development of complementary use of chemical risk assessment and Life Cycle Assessment and alternatives assessment.

You will contribute to the development of methods for life cycle impact assessment of chemicals and nanomaterials and the complementary use of risk assessment in a Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) framework. Additionally, you will contribute to methods development for Absolute environmental sustainability assessment (AESA) of novel entities.

In DTU Sustain’s section for Quantitative Sustainability Assessment (QSA), you will become part of an energetic and team-based research environment with around 40 international staff, postdocs, and PhD students.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your overall focus will be to strengthen one or more of the department’s competences within chemical alternatives assessment, life cycle assessment, and absolute environmental sustainability assessment. Your postdoctoral work will be embedded in an international project, where you will work with a team of experts from different partner organizations.

Your primary tasks will encompass:

  • Development of SSbD methods that address the challenges of assessing toxic impacts of nanomaterials in LCA, making use of risk assessment methods
  • Apply the developed methods and metrics in practice through life cycle assessment and absolute environmental assessment of novel entities
  • Participate in and contribute to leading related tasks and work packages in international research projects
  • Participate in teaching activities including supervision of MSc student projects, and co-supervision of PhD student projects

Required qualifications
You should have a PhD degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, environmental engineering, or a similar degree. You should have expertise in environmental sustainability assessment methods, in particular LCA and risk assessment of chemicals. Expertise in material flow analysis, handling of big data, environmental modelling in general, or specifically modelling impacts and damages on the environment are a clear advantage. A strong motivation for analytical research and excellent communication skills in English are essential for a successful application.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment is 36 months. The position is a full-time position.
