Role and Responsibilities
The core of the technology platform is based on a robust, cloud-based architecture ensuring security, scalability, connectivity, and efficiency. Every device is connected to our advanced infrastructure. The company has established a technology hub in Copenhagen, Denmark, where the team work in an energetic and inspiring environment, collaborating with teams across different locations.
As the Head of Device Engineering, you will be based in Copenhagen, with occasional trips to our operational regions to understand the business and its impact.
Your main responsibilities will include:
Leadership and Management
- Provide strategic direction and technical leadership to the Firmware and Meter Engineering teams.
- Mentor and develop engineering leaders, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the recruitment, development, and retention of top engineering talent.
- Drive the execution of engineering projects, ensuring alignment with company goals and customer requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Management, QA, IT Development, and Operations to ensure seamless integration of engineering efforts.
- Lead the design and development of embedded systems tailored to specific hardware requirements.
- Ensure the development of efficient, reliable, and maintainable firmware using languages such as C, C++, and assembly.
- Oversee the implementation of real-time operating systems (RTOS) for time-sensitive applications.
- Ensure rigorous debugging, testing, and version control practices to maintain high standards of firmware quality.
- Stay current with industry trends and advancements in firmware engineering and apply them to enhance our product offerings.
- Lead the design and development of various types of meters to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
- Oversee the calibration and validation processes to maintain meter accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Drive the development of data collection systems and communication protocols like NB-IoT, LTE, 2G, and LoRa for effective data transmission.
- Ensure rigorous testing and validation of meter designs to guarantee functionality and reliability.
- Stay abreast of changes in regulatory standards and ensure all meter designs meet or exceed these requirements.
- Demonstrated experience with ESP32 and STM32 platforms.
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in device engineering, with a focus on firmware and meter engineering.
- Proven leadership experience, with a track record of managing and developing engineering teams.
- Deep expertise in embedded systems design, firmware development, and meter engineering.
- Strong programming skills in C, C++, and assembly language.
- Experience with microcontroller-based systems and real-time operating systems.
- Proficiency with communication protocols such as LTE, 2G, and BLE.
- Proficiency with power management and optimization techniques.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with firmware architecture design and implementation.
- Experience in the IoT industry.
- Familiarity with modern development tools and practices, such as version control systems (e.g., Git) and agile methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and continuous improvement in engineering practices.
- Strong leadership capabilities with experience managing and mentoring technical teams.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
