Who are we looking for?
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Identity team. You should have a strong focus on backend, but also be able to work with frontend. This is a position that requires collaboration with multiple teams and working with many different services, so someone with experience working in a cross-team environment and service-oriented architecture will have an advantage.

This is a full-time hybrid position at our Penneo HQ in Copenhagen, Denmark.

What would be your responsibilities?
For our Senior Software Engineer, we foresee the following responsibilities, but you'll have the opportunity and freedom to influence and define them with us.

  • Maintaining existing APIs and services. Implementing new functionalities.
  • Monitoring logs and metrics of our services. Improving our observability stack.
  • Helping with our existing CI/CD pipeline, both in our team but also collaborating with other teams.
  • Throughout the rest of the year we will implement integrations with third party services. We expect you to be a key contributor designing and developing these solutions.
  • Continuously improve the code quality, system design, and processes.
  • Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers and mentoring other Software Engineers.

What makes you a great match?
This is what you should have experience with:

  • Backend languages: the main backend languages we use are TypeScript, PHP, Java and Kotlin. We are not expecting you to master them all, but to have a strong background in programming languages.
  • Frontend: React and/or VueJS
  • Cloud environments: we use mainly AWS, Docker containers and Kubernetes
  • Relational databases, like MySQL
  • Automated testing (unit, end to end and integration)

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Authentication and Authorisation mechanisms, like OpenID Connect
  • Experience with Cryptography

Beyond writing well tested and maintainable code, we would like someone who likes mentoring other Software Engineers.

How will this role progress?
It is important to us to be as transparent as possible and to allow you to level expectations for the role. Therefore, we share our impact description in advance and would love your thoughts about it in your application.

During the 1st month, you will:

  • Get acquainted with the team, tools, and technologies used in our projects.
  • Complete onboarding sessions with key departments to understand workflows and company culture.
  • Begin contributing to minor bug fixes and feature enhancements to learn our codebase.
  • Start participating in the planning and implementation phases of new features.

Within 3 months, you will:

  • Be fully integrated into our team, leading major feature builds and influencing our project direction.
  • Take on more significant projects as part of our ongoing feature development.
  • Have the opportunity to propose improvements to our current systems.

Within 6 months, you will:

  • Mentor junior engineers and participate actively in design and code review sessions.
  • Lead a complete cycle of a major product feature, from conception to deployment.
  • Play a critical role in strategic planning for the next phases of our API and Identity solutions.
