Having quadrupled our sales since 2014, we are looking for a VP of R&D to lead our experienced team of optical, mechanical, electrical, and test engineers, in the design of innovative, high quality, industrial-grade spectrometers to major scientific, medical, industrial and pharmaceutical instrument manufacturers worldwide.

The full sales cycle typically extends over a period of 1-5 years, beginning with the design of a customised spectrometer to meet customer requirements, and extending through product testing and approval to product launch and volume production.

The majority of our customers are based in North America, EU and Japan, and close interaction with our customers’ R&D engineers and managers is essential for our success.

The role of the Vice President of R&D
Reporting directly to the CEO of Ibsen, you will be an important part of the senior management team. You will work closely with sales to support customer requirements, and with manufacturing to ensure our designs can be manufactured efficiently. Monitoring technical developments and driving innovation will also be a key responsibility.

As VP of R&D you will be responsible for:

• Leading our team of 10 experienced design and test engineers
• Planning and resourcing new product development projects
• Ensuring development work is documented in accordance with our quality procedures and customer requirements
• Participating in technical dialogues with existing and potential customers.

You will get your hands dirty in daily work, and be measured on your contribution to the overall success of our company, in particular the sales growth achieved through the efforts of your team, as well as the satisfaction of your internal and external customers.

Your team is based in our Headquarters in Farum, Denmark.

Your background and skills
You have a strong educational background within optics or a related engineering discipline. You get your energy from working with highly motivated and competent colleagues developing new, innovative products that create superior customer value. You come with solid experience from optical design projects, preferably with both project management and line management experience.

You should be able to tick the boxes below:

• Proven track record of successful project management and line management
• Experienced in coaching and motivating project teams – setting ambitious but realistic goals and helping your teams achieve them
• A proactive and highly energetic personality with a strong desire for your team to create value
• A strong preference for quality and integrity in all your communications.

Since our corporate language is English we expect you to be fluent in written and spoken English. Danish is an advantage, but not a prerequisite.
