The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Southern Denmark invites applications for a 2-year position as postdoc in the area of Capacitor development and their applications. The position is located at the Centre for Industrial Electronics (CIE) in Sønderborg. Starting date is 1 January 2025.

Sønderborg is an international campus with students from more than 60 nationalities. The Faculty of Engineering is represented by the Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IME). CIE is embedded in a powerhouse in electronics, which includes researchers and developers at universities and industries on both sides of the Danish-German border. CIE is an initiative striving for high quality and great impact of its research, innovation and education. Central to achieving this objective is access to state-of-the-art facilities and close collaborations with industries.

The task portfolio of the postdoc will be related to capacitor development within CIE.

The aim of the position is to build strong knowledge and competencies within the scale-up of layer-by-layer fabrication of nanocomposite capacitors.

Job description

  • You will conduct research in the field of nanocomposite capacitors (layer-by-layer polymer capacitor fabrication scale-up.
  • You will participate in planning, execution and documentation of projects with industrial partners.
  • You will be involved in the daily supervision of PhD, Master and Bachelor students that perform research on similar topic.
  • You will publish and present your work both at international conferences and in scientific journals with high impact.

Profile and requirements

  • You have a PhD degree in physics, chemistry, electrical engineering or related fields. Candidates are required to have a proven research record in at least one of the following fields:
  • - Materials science
  • - Thin-film electronic device fabrication
  • - Ink formulation chemistry
  • - Capacitor materials development
  • - Polymer science
  • - Electrostatic modelling/high voltage physic
  • - Direct experience with spin coating, slot-die coating, or similar
  • - Experience with electronic device design, fabrication, and characterisation
  • - Familiarity with capacitor materials and their design
  • - A track-record of interdisciplinary research
  • - An outstanding research and publication track record
  • You have published in high-impact conferences and journals in the field of energy storge devices, reliability, and simulation.
  • You are a team player and have strong communication skills.
  • You are interested in a longer-term commitment in a growing research group, and you are willing to work in close cooperation with industry.
  • You are fluent in English, both spoken and written.
  • A track record in participating in national and/or European research projects is a plus.

Conditions of employment
Appointment as postdoctoral researcher is temporary and for an initial 2-year period. Extension may be possible depending on available funding.

The preferred starting date is 1 January 2025.

Employment as a postdoc requires scientific qualifications at PhD level at the time of employment.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Further information on salary and taxation.
