A work permit/have the right to in Kenya, Uganda, Mozambique or Tanzania (i.e. at MS TCDC in Arusha) is a must.

About Us:
Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke (MS) is part of the international network ActionAid. We have a special focus on two of the biggest challenges of our time: the democracy crisis and the climate crisis. In collaboration with young activists, local organizations, and social movements, we create change in more than 45 countries worldwide.

The Finance team at MS consists of a total of 11 employees who manage accounting and finances for the entire organization, including activities funded by donors such as Danida and the EU, income from our contributors, the operation of cafés, a hostel, meeting room rentals, our travel program Global Contact, etc.

About the Job:
As an International Controller, you will primarily be responsible for handling the 'SPA,' which is our Strategic Partnership Agreement with Danida under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Denmark. It is a clear goal for MS to enhance our competencies related to the financial administration of our international work, including Danida funds and EU-funded resources, which have grown in recent years and are expected to grow further.

As our new Controller, you will have two roles:

Your primary role will be as financial controller for the SPA, where you will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating and ensuring deadlines and compliance with Danida's requirements and guidelines.
  • Reporting to your colleague, our Focal point SPA Controller, including quarterly and annual reports throughout the year, as well as annual audits of all partner countries in collaboration with your colleagues in the Finance Team and our auditors.
  • Preparing and assisting in budget/reporting templates to our partner countries in collaboration with our Programme managers.
  • Assisting in workshops with partner countries regarding financial guidelines, new templates, and ensuring compliance with guidelines in collaboration with Programme Managers and your fellow controllers.
  • Ensuring timely reporting from partner countries.
  • Ensuring continuous monitoring of partner countries in accordance with applicable guidelines and checklists.

You will be responsible for controlling some partner countries, including quarterly and annual reports, as well as annual budgeting in collaboration with the responsible Programme Managers.

  • Communicating finance complexities in simple and clear ways, and creating simple, best practice, and user-friendly solutions.
  • Being both hands-on and capable of developing new administrative practices and procedures.

In addition, you will have a role as a classic Business Controller, where your tasks will include:

  • Controlling one or more teams in MS, including ensuring monthly financial meetings with the Team Managers in your teams.
  • Annual and ongoing budget planning in collaboration with Team Managers.
  • Preparing project accounts and reporting and auditing in collaboration with auditors.
  • Contributing to the year-end closing.

About You:
To be a good fit for this position, we expect that you:

  • You are good at taking ownership, prioritizing, and delivering on your tasks
  • Have at least 5 years of relevant job experience.
  • Possess high-level Excel skills
  • Are experienced with ERP solutions, including working with complex financial management.
  • Have the ability to build strong collaborative relationships with your colleagues at MS, as well as our program partner countries, with whom you will work closely.
  • Are able to travel approximately 3-5 weeks per year to the partner countries you are responsible for.
  • Are quality-conscious and can ensure compliance with all guidelines and meet deadlines.
  • Are fluent in both written and spoken English.
  • Are a good communicator, especially skilled at explaining and translating difficult financial terms and issues to your colleagues throughout the organization.
  • A work permit in Kenya, Uganda, Mozambique or Tanzania (Arusha area located in TCDC) is a must.

If you also have experience with the following, it would be an advantage:

  • Financial management of donor-funded resources.
  • Project Financial management.
  • Experience with ERP systems and BI systems preferably Power BI.

We Offer:

  • A fixed-term contract for a minimum of 4 years with 37 working hours/week.
  • Duty-station in an AAI member office e.g. Kenya, Uganda, Mozambique or Tanzania. You must hold a valid work permit to one of these countries
