Chief Commercial Director - Australia & New Zealand

We are looking for a Chief Commercial Director as a key member of the Australia/New Zealand leadership team. Reporting directly to the CEO of Southerly Ten, you will be responsible for developing and executing commercial strategies to drive revenue growth, expand market share, and maximise profitability. You will lead all aspects of commercial operations, including securing offtake, business case robustness, negotiating key strategic partnerships, sales and marketing, contract negotiations, and investor and relationship management.

You will support initiatives including:

  • [Offtake] - Manage the negotiation and execution of commercial agreements, including power purchase agreements (PPAs), project contracts, supply agreements, and joint venture partnerships.
  • [Business case / investment case] - Develop and implement comprehensive commercial strategies to achieve company objectives and targets in the Australian/New Zealand offshore wind market.
  • Lead business development efforts to identify and pursue new opportunities for project development, including site identification, feasibility studies, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with key industry stakeholders, including government agencies, regulatory bodies, project developers, investors, suppliers, and local communities.
  • Drive continuous improvement in commercial processes and practices to enhance efficiency, mitigate risks, and optimise financial performance.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to cross-functional teams, including project development, engineering, finance, legal, and regulatory affairs, to ensure alignment and collaboration in achieving commercial objectives.
  • Monitor market trends, competitive dynamics, and regulatory developments to identify opportunities and threats, and adapt strategies accordingly.
  • Represent Southerly Ten in industry forums, conferences, and events to raise awareness, build relationships, and position the company as a thought leader in offshore wind energy.
  • Foster a culture of integrity, transparency, and accountability within the commercial organisation, promoting ethical conduct and compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.

To succeed in this role, you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, finance, or related field; advanced degree (MBA, JD, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Proven track record of senior leadership in commercial roles within the renewable energy or power generation industry, critical infrastructure sector, with specific experience in offshore wind highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated new market / new industry experience
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing commercial strategies, driving revenue growth, and negotiating complex agreements in a competitive market environment.
  • Strong understanding of project development processes, including site selection, permitting, financing, and construction, with experience in the Australian market preferred.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and influence stakeholders at all levels of an organisation.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyse market trends, assess competitive dynamics, and develop actionable insights to inform decision-making.
  • Results-oriented mindset with a focus on delivering measurable outcomes and achieving business objectives.
  • Collaborative leadership style with a commitment to fostering teamwork, diversity, and inclusion within the organisation.
