Postdoc in organic synthesis and carbohydrate chemistry - DTU Chemistry

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)

Postdoc in organic synthesis and carbohydrate chemistry. You will be responsible for the design and execution of new synthetic strategies for rare sugars and converting them into building blocks for oligosaccharide synthesis. The position is part of a 7-year program in plant cell wall glycan research.
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated organic synthetic chemist to ignite our program within carbohydrate chemistry and oligosaccharide synthesis. We are embarking on a 7-year journey, and you have a chance to help lay the foundation for the whole project. We are looking for a creative mind with excellent practical lab skills to rethink synthesis and remove bottlenecks to glycan assembly.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The main responsibility is to design and execute synthetic routes to rare sugars and glycosyl donors and acceptors from these. You will join a research team with a broad interest in chemical biology and a long-standing interest in plant cell wall glycans. Undergraduate and PhD research projects can be integrated in the project, and you are expected to interact with and co-supervise those projects. Additionally, some teaching responsibilities can be expected, mainly involving laboratory courses.

  • Candidates should have a PhD degree in chemistry with a strong theoretical and experimental background in organic chemistry.
  • An interest in chemical biology and a desire to work in an interdisciplinary environment.
  • A documented track record in carbohydrate chemistry and oligosaccharide synthesis is an advantage for this position.
  • A strong commitment to research.
  • Enthusiasm for working with research students.
  • Independence and strong communication skills.

Applicants should have a thorough interest in synthetic chemical methodology, its application to target synthesis, and an appreciation for complex molecule synthesis.

In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to:

  • Relevance of background experience.
  • Passion for research and scientific discoveries.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
