POSITION OBJECTIVES

  • A radio operator is responsible for maintaining and operating radio communication systems. The job description for a radio operator may vary depending, but some general responsibilities are listed below. In addition to these responsibilities, radio operators must possess good verbal and written communication skills and be able to work under pressure and make quick decisions. They may also need to know specific regulations and protocols related to the organisation.
  • Regardless of the content of this job description, the employee is expected to participate in any task necessary for the organisation, as delegated by the manager, at all times.MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Operating and maintaining radio communication systems: Radio operators must be able to operate and maintain radio communication systems, ensuring that they function correctly and transmit and receive messages.
  • Monitoring communication channels: Radio operators must monitor communication channels to ensure they are clear and can receive incoming messages.
  • Transmitting and receiving messages: Radio operators must be able to transmit and receive messages accurately and quickly, often in high-pressure situations.
  • Keeping records: Radio operators are responsible for keeping accurate records of all transmissions and messages sent and received.
  • Troubleshooting issues: Radio operators must be able to identify and troubleshoot any problems with the communication system and make repairs as needed.
  • Following safety procedures: Radio operators must follow safety procedures and guidelines to ensure they and others are not in danger while operating the communication system.
  • Maintaining confidentiality: Radio operators must maintain confidentiality of all communications and messages, as some may contain sensitive information.
