Chief Marketing Officer in Paychex Europe
The Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) will play a pivotal role in shaping our brand and driving customer engagement across our digital platforms. The CMO will be responsible for developing and executing a unified marketing strategy that enhances our market position across all regions, ensuring that the company meets and exceeds its growth and customer engagement goals. The CMO will be accountable for the demand generation pipeline and driving revenue growth.

The CMO will ensure the marketing function is strategically aligned with business objectives and operationally effectively delivers measurable results.

The Central marketing function will drive strategy while our local marketing teams focus on execution. The CMO will ensure that the global strategy is effectively localized, allowing for adaptations that align with regional sales strategies and market conditions.

This role demands a balance between global brand consistency and local market adaptability, fostering collaboration across the marketing organization and empowering teams with best practices, clear processes and shared assets. This role requires a strategic and operational leader capable of balancing global consistency with local relevance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration across the marketing organization.

The CMO is a central function and reports to the CEO of Paychex Europe. The new CMO can work from any country in Europe, as long as the CMO is willing to work hybrid and travel to our offices on a regular basis. This is a unique opportunity to influence the growth trajectory of a leading SaaS provider in Europe.

Key Responsibilities for the new CMO
1. Brand Strategy and Corporate Identity:

  • Develop and Strengthen Brand: Establish and maintain a strong, consistent brand identity that resonates across all European markets. Ensure the Paychex Europe brand is recognized for its value, integrity, and alignment with customer needs.
  • Consistency Across Regions: Ensure that the brand and corporate identity are consistent across the European markets while allowing localization to meet regional market demands.

2. Integrated Marketing Execution:

  • Drive lead generation through innovative digital marketing channels, including SEO, content marketing, campaigns, events and inbound lead generation.
  • Develop, lead, and execute the central marketing initiatives that align with our business goals and enhance our brand presence in the SaaS market.
  • Collaborate closely with the product marketing, sales, customer success and local field marketing teams to ensure cohesive messaging and branding across all customer touchpoints.
  • Align Marketing with Business Objectives: Ensure marketing strategies align with overall business goals, including revenue generation, customer acquisition, and retention. Efficient Execution: Streamline marketing operations to ensure quick time-to-market for all campaigns and initiatives. This includes reducing the need for last-minute, ad-hoc activities by ensuring robust planning and execution processes.

3. Stakeholder Alignment and Team Empowerment:

  • Lead and inspire a high-performing marketing team, encouraging creativity and professional development.
  • Foster Stakeholder Collaboration: The CMO will work closely with key organizational stakeholders to ensure alignment on strategies, plans, and prioritization and cultivate a transparent, collaborative, and team-oriented culture.
  • Empower Marketing Teams: Empower marketing personnel across the organization to develop best practices, share successes, and grow their capabilities. The CMO will create an environment where team members are encouraged to innovate and learn from one another.
  • Create and maintain an inventory of best practices, marketing concepts, and assets that can be reused across regions to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. Establish a setup for knowledge sharing, transparency, and close collaboration between central and local marketing teams.
  • Engage with customers and partners to understand their needs and continuously improve our offerings.

4. Monitoring and Measuring Success:

  • Track and Report on Key Metrics: The CMO will develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of marketing strategies and their impact on sales and revenue. Regular reporting to senior leadership will be required.
  • Continuous Improvement: Use data-driven insights to refine and improve marketing strategies and tactics continuously. Measure and report on marketing performance metrics, adjusting strategies based on data-driven insights.
  • Oversee the central marketing budget, ensuring efficient use of resources to maximize campaign ROI.

The CMO's Success Criteria

  • Increased Market Presence: A stronger, more consistent brand that drives awareness, engagement, and trust with target audiences.
  • Higher Sales Efficiency: Enhanced collaboration between marketing and sales, leading to better-aligned strategies and improved sales outcomes.
  • Optimized Marketing Operations: Streamlined processes that reduce costs, avoid duplication of efforts, and ensure faster execution of marketing initiatives.
  • Empowered Teams: A marketing organization that is empowered, motivated, and aligned with the company’s overall strategic objectives.

Important Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in marketing or relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a senior B2B marketing position, preferably in the SaaS industry or tech sector.
  • Proven track record with scale-up business and product launch on new markets
  • Proven track record of success in developing and executing marketing strategies that drive growth and customer engagement.
  • Strong familiarity with digital marketing tools and analytics platforms.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop talent.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in English (additional European languages are a plus).
  • Knowledge of European market dynamics and cultural sensitivities.
