Legal and Aid diversion Advisor
Are you passionate about making a tangible difference in fragile contexts affected by conflict, poverty, and disaster? Do you want to play a pivotal role in ensuring humanitarian aid reaches those in need, while upholding the highest standards of integrity and compliance? If so, this role as a Legal and Aid Diversion Advisor with the Danish Red Cross (DRC) could be the perfect position for you.

About Us:
The Danish Red Cross (DRC) works to increase and strengthen humanitarian impact, promote human dignity, and build resilience and social cohesion in some of the world’s most vulnerable regions. You will be joining our Global Partnership Unit, which drives our international partnership engagement and ensures compliance with donor requirements, supporting strategic partnerships both within and outside the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

As part of this unit, you will help ensure the integrity of our international work by leading efforts to prevent fraud, corruption, aid diversion, and terrorist financing, all while working in close collaboration with DRC’s global partners, regional offices, and donors.

Key Responsibilities:
As the Legal and Aid Diversion Advisor, you will be at the forefront of DRC's efforts to ensure transparency and accountability across its international programs. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development and implementation of anti-corruption and compliance measures, ensuring that the DRC International Department adheres to global donor requirements and international standards.
  • Designing and delivering comprehensive anti-corruption training packages tailored for country offices and DRC staff, helping build local capacities in preventing fraud and aid diversion.
  • Acting as the DRC Complaints Officer for aid-diversion cases, managing investigations and ensuring swift and thorough responses.
  • Regularly conducting on-site monitoring visits, delivering detailed reports to senior management, and maintaining ongoing dialogue with key donors to ensure transparency and alignment.
  • Serving as the Sanctions and Anti-Terrorism Focal Point, ensuring that all operations comply with relevant laws and internal policies.
  • Providing legal expertise on agreements and contract frameworks, particularly in complex negotiations with international partners.

What You Bring:
We are looking for a skilled, driven individual who thrives in fast-paced, mission-driven environments. Ideally, you possess:

  • A University degree in law, investigations, or a related field, or equivalent significant experience in aid diversion, compliance, or anti-corruption.
  • Formal training or certification in investigative methodologies.
  • At least 5 years of experience in investigations, anti-corruption, or fraud prevention, ideally within the humanitarian or international development sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of sanctions, counter-terrorism, and compliance frameworks, with experience navigating complex regulatory environments.
  • A working knowledge of humanitarian contexts, with experience in finance or logistics being an added advantage.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across cultures and with teams spread across multiple regions.
  • Fluency in English is essential; proficiency in French or Arabic is a bonus.
  • A willingness to travel up to 8 weeks per year to support on-the-ground operations.

We offer:
A full-time position of 37 working hours per week in a busy and inspiring workplace showing flexibility. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to work in a motivated team and be part of Danish Red Cross’ large global humanitarian action and contribute to impact. You will refer to the Head of Global Partnerships in Copenhagen. The position is located in our offices in Copenhagen.

Salary and employment conditions will comply with Danish Red Cross’s collective bargain agreement with HK and AC.
