Your role and responsibilities
You will be part of Powertrain & Digitalization team at ABB Corporate Research in Västerås, Sweden. At Corporate Research we lead the innovation within ABB and our task is to ensure ABB's technology competitiveness now and in the future. We work in close collaboration with other research centers, our business areas: Motion, Process Automation, Robotics & Discrete Automation and Electrification, as well academic and industrial partners. In our creative and highly skilled team we develop, design, build and test new concepts and prototypes of physical and digital powertrains consisting of electric energy source, electrical motor, electric drive, and a selected application. Details: • Period: January-June 2025 • 30 ECTS per student • Number of students: 1 • Location: On site at ABB Corporate Research in Västerås, Sweden Your responsibilities: • Literature review, simulation of modulation methods for reduction of common mode voltages for voltage source converters • Develop rapid control prototyping setup for modulation studies • Practical implementation of simulated algorithms on laboratory test bench and performance evaluation of modulation algorithms • Possibly test the solution in commercially available devices or ABB products • Document the results in a technical report
Qualifications for the role
- Theoretical understanding and practical experience in modeling and control of electrical drives
- Knowledge about MATLAB/Simulink is mandatory. Experience with C++, and/or Python is a plus
- Prior hands on experience with rapid control prototyping tools like TI DSP’s, Dspace, OPAL-RT is a plus
- Good collaboration capabilities in a research and development team
- Strong team spirit and individual leadership to deliver expected results on time and with high quality
