Global Environmental Lead

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership: Translate our Environmental and Sustainability Strategy into actionable operational activities, ensuring alignment with Health Safety, Biosafety, cGMP, and other regulatory standards.

Project Management: Identify and oversee environmental optimization projects with a focus on sustainability and a circular economy mindset. Support all projects to mitigate potential environmental impacts.

Compliance & Regulation: Ensure compliance with environmental regulations (EPA, REACH, CSRD, DGSA) and manage permits, approvals, and regulatory assessments across our sites. Engage with authorities for environmental approvals and ensure ongoing compliance.

Risk Assessment: Conduct environmental risk assessments for new processes and equipment modifications. Ensure incident reporting and corrective actions are timely and communicated across the global organization.

Reporting & Analysis: Establish and report on Environmental KPIs, prepare EHS reports, and contribute to ESG Global CSRD reporting. Maintain and manage the environmental budget.

Global Collaboration: Coordinate with local EHS specialists, collaborate across departments, and travel to other Bavarian Nordic locations as needed.

Role-Specific Responsibilities:

Influence & Impact: Lead initiatives that will have a significant impact on the environmental culture within Bavarian Nordic. Your role will involve influencing and driving the company's overall environmental development, making sustainability a core part of our operational ethos.

Behavioral Change: Play a crucial role in behavioral change management across the organization, ensuring that environmental considerations are integrated into everyday business activities at all levels.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a pharmaceutical or GMP-regulated operations environment.
  • Proven experience in impacting the environmental landscape of a pharmaceutical innovator and producer.
  • Knowledge of environmental management principles (ISO14001, ISO50001) and experience in implementing or supporting these standards.
  • Experience with sustainability rating schemes, EU taxonomy, and/or the CSRD.
  • Leadership and management skills with the ability to influence senior and executive management

Key Competencies:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (English essential, Danish/German a plus).
  • Ability to drive change and solve problems with innovative solutions.
  • Strong organizational, scheduling, and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Customer-focused with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
