Postdoc in Immersive Virtual Reality and Human Decision-Making – DTU Management

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)

Two-year postdoc position in Immersive Virtual Reality and Human Decision-Making, focussing on the development and testing of new methods for conducting immersive virtual reality experiments to guide the design of human-centric transport and infrastructure systems.
Do you have experience in designing and implementing immersive virtual reality experiments? Are you interested in developing and testing new methodologies to conduct immersive virtual reality experiments? Are you eager to apply these methodologies to real-world challenges in transport and infrastructure systems? If so, we invite you to apply for this two-year postdoctoral position in Immersive Virtual Reality and Human Decision-Making at DTU Management.

The position is part of the project IMMERSION: Explaining human decision-making by combining choice and process data, which is funded by a European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant. The project aims to advance the study of human decision-making by developing new innovative methods for combining choice and process data. This includes new methods for collecting rich behavioural data in immersive experiments using virtual reality.

You will be part of a diverse research team led by Assistant Professor Rico Krueger. You will be a member of the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) section within the Division for Transportation Science at the Department of Technology, Management and Economics (DTU Management) at DTU.

Responsibilities and qualifications
You will contribute to the success of the project by designing, implementing and conducting immersive virtual reality experiments in collaboration with other members of the research team. Your role focusses on the development and testing of new methodologies for conducting immersive virtual reality experiments.

In your role, you will:

  • Design, implement and conduct immersive virtual reality experiments focussed on understanding human decision-making in the context of future transport and infrastructure systems.
  • Develop and test ground-breaking new methodologies for collecting rich behavioural data in immersive settings.
  • Create virtual environments representing future transport and infrastructure systems using game engines such as Unreal Engine or Unity.
  • Pilot and manage data collection efforts utilising virtual reality technologies and neurophysiological sensors (e.g. to gather biomarker, neuroimaging, and eye-tracking data).
  • Manage state-of-the-art software and hardware for conducting immersive virtual reality experiments.
  • Collaborate with team members and international research partners.
  • Present research findings at international conferences and publish in leading journals.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). Specifically, we seek applicants with a PhD degree in computer science, human-computer interaction, human-centric computing, human transport, transport engineering, urban planning or similar.

We imagine that you contribute to our research team with your expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Design and implementation of virtual reality experiments.
  • Planning and design of human-centric transport and infrastructure systems.
  • 3D game engine development (e.g. Unreal Engine, Unity).
  • Programming (e.g. Python, C, C++, Java).

In addition, project management skills as well as proficient written and oral communication skills are essential.
