Following the success with a number of projects we are looking for an Instrument Engineer to join the Semco Maritime team in Aberdeen. You will have knowledge and experience in Fire detection and alarm systems with a sound knowledge of instrumentation and control engineering principles and their application.
The Engineering team is focused on the energy industries with current projects supporting brownfield projects for Oil and Gas operators.
As an Engineer with Semco you can expect to work on a wide variety of projects from concept right through to commissioning. This role will provide you with a varied and interesting workload; every day will provide you with a different challenge.
We work alongside many specialised manufacturers including Siemens and Autronica to deliver projects and support operational requirements within the energy industries.

Key responsibilities and tasks
You will be supporting the project work with development of the design, system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting. You will be the focal point for our customers on Fire and Gas Systems. The role requires good organisational and communication skills. Tasks include:
- Development of the design interpreting the Customer’s requirements
- Producing specifications, project documentation and technical reports
- Technical responsibility for allocated tasks; attend and actively contribute to design reviews
- Completing testing and commissioning of systems ensuring the design meets the standards and specifications.
- Fault finding and troubleshooting on Fire and Gas systems
- Contributing to the development of the Engineering team and support the winning of new business.
Who we are looking for
We expect the ideal candidate to have the following experience and qualities:
- Development of modifications to existing equipment and specifying new equipment.
- Successful delivery of:
- Fire and Gas Systems
- Field Instrumentation including pressure, level, temperature, flow
- Conversant and knowledgeable with relevant legislation and standards including Functional Safety Management requirements to IEC 61508 & IEC61511.
- Knowledge of field instrumentation and valves.
- Preparation of Instrument engineering deliverables (scopes of work, specifications, datasheets, calculations, etc)
- Self-starter with a Proactive and practical approach to work
- Strong inter-personal and communication skills
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Required Education, Skills and Qualifications:
- Educated to Degree/HNC level in an appropriate subject or equivalent experience
- Experience working in an engineering environment, ideally in the energy sector
- Fluent in English
- Competent with MS Office application
- TUV Functional Safety Certification (Preferred)
You are mobile and willing to travel both nationally, international and offshore. We provide training and support to help further develop your skills, knowledge and professional development. Time spent on site or Offshore will vary dependent on projects.
