Your role and responsibilities
At ABB Robotics, we strive to provide our customers with the most technically advanced and innovative robot solutions, enhancing the speed and accuracy of our systems. This project offers a unique opportunity to explore the capabilities, performance, and potential of new design tools on the market, providing valuable insights that could shape the future of software design at ABB Robotics. The primary goal of this thesis is to excitingly evaluate and compare the effectiveness of advanced AI tools used for code generation of tests in verification and validation. The student will embark on a comprehensive analysis to uncover the strengths, weaknesses, and potential applications of these cutting-edge tools. Expected Outcomes: • A thorough and insightful evaluation report detailing the performance of the AI tools. • Valuable insights into the practical applications and limitations of using AI to create tests for validation and verification in the field of functional safety. • Innovative state-of-the-art and proof-of-concept implementation for testing parts of a robot safety controller. Details: • 6 months, starting early January, ending early July • Master thesis work (30 ECTS) • 1-2 students • Main part for work done at ABB Robotics location Finnslätten Västerås This thesis work is independent, and we expect you to excel in engagement, curiosity, and collaboration. You will have a dedicated supervisor to guide you and numerous opportunities to influence the direction of the project as you see fit. You will embody ABB’s core values of safety and integrity, taking responsibility for your actions while caring for your colleagues and the business.

Qualifications for the role

  • You are currently pursuing a Master of Science in Engineering Physics, Data Science, Robotics, or a similar field
  • You have a strong interest in both AI and Software Development
