Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) is an architecture, design, and urban planning firm known for merging creative concepts with practical and aesthetic innovation. At BIG, creativity has no boundaries, and we foster an environment where every idea, regardless of its origin, is encouraged. With offices in Copenhagen, New York, and London, BIG aims to create socially, economically, and environmentally perfect spaces through collaborative efforts.
We are seeking a Planting Specialist with a passion for design to join our team in Copenhagen. In this role, your primary focus will be on the conceptualization and development of landscape designs that blend plant science with architectural vision, rather than hands-on planting or horticulture. You'll work closely with the landcape architect department, alongside architects, urbanists, and engineers to integrate sustainable and visually stunning greenery into large-scale projects, creating environments that reflect BIG’s philosophy of design evolution
Responsibilities:
- Lead the planting and landscape design components in landscape architectural projects.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to seamlessly integrate plant elements with land, and landscape architectural plans to provide guidance on softscape design and biodiverse strategies.
- Utilize in-depth knowledge of plant species, horticultural practices, and ecological design to inform and influence overall project aesthetics.
- Develop design presentations, sketches, and mood boards to communicate ideas to clients and internal teams.
- Contribute to sustainable landscape and urban practices, ensuring all plantings align with ecological goals and local biodiversity.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Plant Science, or a related field
- A strong portfolio showcasing design-focused landscape or planting projects.
- Proficiency in design software such as Rhino, Adobe Suite and preferably Revit. Experience with GIS not required, but a plus.
- A deep understanding of plant biology, ecosystems, horticultural principles, and sustainable landscape design.
- Experience with biological fieldwork, species surveys, and data analysis is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, creative environment.
- Proficiency in English, spoken and written.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience working with landscape architectural firms or in collaborative design environments
- Knowledge of local and international planting schemes and practices, specifically South East Asia and/or MENA.
- Familiarity with the integration of landscape design into large-scale urban and landscape architectural projects.
Why Join BIG?
At BIG, you will be part of a dynamic, international team where ideas are free to grow and evolve. We offer a creative and inclusive work environment, where personal and professional growth is encouraged. Join us in shaping tomorrow’s landscapes with innovative, green solutions that are as beautiful as they are functional.
BIG offers:
- A young and social environment with many social events
