Who are we?
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) Standby Roster is part of the Humanitarian Strategic Surge Capacity unit within the People and Organization department.

We have assisted UN agencies around the world with the deployment of experts to fill capacity gaps in humanitarian operations with short notice for more than 30 years and we are considered a leading partner to several UN agencies including UNHCR, UNICEF and WFP.
A roster is a list of carefully vetted, recruited and trained professionals, who are ready to be deployed at short notice. Our team is managing several rosters that enable the DRC Standby Roster (SBR) to deploy expert staff on short notice to UN and DRC operations globally. About the internship
The intern will be part of the Standby Roster team and will assist with the deployment of experts (roster members) to specific UN missions in the field.

Tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • Updating our website information and working on social media presence
  • Writing and distributing our quarterly newsletter to all roster members
  • Supporting with ad hoc administrative and financial tasks using Excel and our internal ERP system ‘Dynamics’ to process deployees’ expenses, book flight tickets and support colleagues and roster members with various inquiries
  • Supporting the preparation and facilitation of the induction trainings of new roster members
  • Assisting with the recruitment, reference collecting and onboarding of new roster members
  • Attending briefings and debriefings with roster members before and after deployments
  • Registering UN requests for deployments and trainings in our ‘HERO’ database
    • A development project defined according to your competencies and interests, which contributes to the development needs of the Standby Roster team

About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to:

    • Commit to the values and code of behavior of the Danish Refugee Council
    • Be able to work independently and proactive and handle challenges in a constructive and positive way
    • Have an interest in and flair for communication and administrative tasks incl. financial management
  • Be open-minded and flexible towards the different tasks assigned to you

Your qualifications
Your field of study is not paramount, but it should be within social sciences and/or international affairs.

To apply for the internship, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Have an interest in international affairs and humanitarian assistance
  • Have completed a minimum of two years of higher education
  • Be fluent in spoken and written English
    • Have the ability to navigate a challenging environment and handle a wide range of complex tasks

It is a requirement that you are enrolled in a university during the full internship period.

We offer
Contract length: 5-6 months subject to study requirements and further dialogue

Workplace: DRC Headquarters located Borgergade 10, Copenhagen

Start date: January 2024. We can be flexible on the start date.

Working hours: 32 hours per week. We offer flexibility when you have study obligations next to the internship.

The internship is not paid, but we offer:

  • 2,08 (unpaid) vacation days per month. The days can either be spent as you earn them or be accumulated
  • Free lunch in our canteen (subject to our canteen being open)
  • Free participation in our Winter or Summer party (subject to dates)

Please note that if you do not have the right to work in Denmark (through nationality or existing work visa), you will need to apply for it if selected for the internship. This process can take up to three months from initiating the process. You can read more here.
