Role Overview
The Foundation Design Manager will play a pivotal role in the design and implementation of foundation systems for offshore wind farms. This role requires deep technical expertise in offshore engineering, project management skills, and a collaborative approach to lead multidisciplinary teams in delivering robust and cost-effective foundation solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Leadership: Lead the foundation design process for offshore wind projects, from initial concept through final design and construction.
- Technical Expertise: Apply advanced knowledge of geotechnical and structural engineering to create designs that ensure stability, durability, and cost efficiency in challenging marine environments.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders—including structural engineers, geotechnical experts, environmental specialists, and marine contractors—to ensure seamless project delivery.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs meet local, national, and international standards for offshore foundations, including those specific to the wind energy sector.
- Risk Management: Conduct detailed risk assessments and integrate mitigation strategies into design plans to address potential environmental, structural, and operational risks.
- Innovation and Optimization: Implement new technologies and design methodologies to enhance foundation efficiency and minimize the environmental impact of offshore wind structures.
- Project Documentation: Prepare detailed technical reports, design documentation, and project updates to keep stakeholders informed throughout project lifecycles.
Description of the position, key responsibility, and tasks:
- Manage the operational and technical scope, including planning and execution of the package.
- Manage schedule with (sub)contractors.
- Develop risk and quality incorporations and act to continuously seek improvements.
- Manage and keep up to date risk matrix.
- Actively work together with other packages and solve interface related topics.
- Ensure that a high focus on quality and HSE are maintained within the package.
- Manage the T&I contract and involve contract managers when required.
Qualifications
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field. A relevant professional engineering license is highly desirable.
- Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years in foundation design, with at least 3-5 years focused on offshore wind or marine projects.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in foundation and geotechnical design software (e.g., Plaxis, SAP2000, SACS, or similar)
- Strong understanding of offshore foundation types, including monopiles, jackets, and floating foundations
- Knowledge of Standards: Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., DNV, IEC) and environmental regulations applicable to offshore wind projects.
- Project Management: Proven ability to lead projects, manage timelines and budgets, and coordinate complex logistics in offshore settings.
- Communication and Leadership: Strong interpersonal skills and experience leading teams, with the ability to present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
