The University seeks to appoint an associate professor (half time) to the Department of Immunology and Microbiology to commence as soon as possible. Information on the Department can be found at: https://isim.ku.dk/.

Our research
Research at the Centre for translational Medicine and Parasitology (CMP) is focused on malaria and recently on using the learnings from malaria during pregnancy to develop novel cancer diagnostic tools and therapies. All activities are organised in thematically defined teams, each led by a senior scientist. The team leaders, the Head of CMP, and a technician representative form the daily leadership of CMP. CMP is part of a well-established international scientific network composed of scientists in Europe, Africa, America, and Australia. More than 60 scientists and technicians are affiliated at CMP. The VAR2CSA team spans development of vaccines against malaria and other infectious diseases including COVID19 as well as research and development of novel cancer therapies and diagnostic tools. Our research facilities are located at the Panum Institute in the Mærsk Tower.

Job description
The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination
  • Leading research team including laboratory technicians and master students
  • Managing larger international research and development collaborations
  • Obligation to share knowledge with society
  • Academic assessments

In considering applications for the associate professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant´s ability to document a high level of original scientific work at an international level within the area of applied cancer diagnostics and biomarker research. The position will focus on how to utilize oncofetal chondroitin sulphate as a biomarker for cancer with a specific focus on clinical testing in close collaboration with university hospitals. A proven track record within group management and student supervision is desired. A key part of the work will be to coordinate larger research programs between international teams.

Each applicant is required to document:

  • Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc, but may also be obtained in other ways
  • Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
  • Research-based teaching

Furthermore, we are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following skills and experience:

  • You have a PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry or similar
  • You are highly experienced in molecular cancer biology and immunology
  • Proven experience in single cell analysis, including mRNAseq, microscopy and flow cytometry
  • Knowledge in cancer biomarkers for diagnostic use
  • You have an active interest in translational research
  • Experience in grant application writing and research dissemination
  • Experience in management of clinical data and collaboration with hospitals

The associate professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

Terms of employment
The position is a half time, Fixed-Term, 5 years position.

The average weekly working hours are 18.5 hours per week.

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
