We are looking for an experienced and ambitious associate professor working on the interface between design and manufacturing for sustainability (e.g. Design for Environment, Circular Product Design, Resource-Efficient Manufacturing, Life Cycle Screening) to join our team at the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, the Technical University of Denmark. Priority will be given to applicants with experience in applying cutting-edge approaches in digitalisation for supporting sustainable design and manufacturing (e.g. life cycle data collection and visualisation, simulation, digital twins, digital product passports).
At the Section of Design for Sustainability you will contribute to the development of a promising innovative research area, within DTU Construct. Responsibilities and qualifications

You will lead the development of a new research area within the Section of Design for Sustainability, enabling a successful industrial transition towards sustainability. Your primary tasks will include:
- Establish a strong research area within Design for Sustainability, Circular Economy, Sustainable Manufacturing practice, Industrial Twin Transition, contributing to enlarge the impact and breadth of the research carried out at the Section of Design for Sustainability (please specify your proposed area in your application)
- Contribute to ongoing research projects & activities within the Section of Design for Sustainability
- Contribute towards strengthening collaborations between the Section of Design for Sustainability and other Sections in the Department (e.g., Manufacturing Engineering, Solid Mechanics, Engineering Design and Manufacturing Systems)
- Engage in and initiate/lead external funding acquisition from public and private sources
- Contribute to the section’s international visibility and impact, e.g., through co-/lead role in internal and external professional networks/associations and research centres
- Build strategic research collaborations with Danish and European manufacturing industries
- Publish research results in high-end scientific journals and conferences
- Support with supervision and co-supervision of BSc, MSc, PhD students, postdocs, and research staff
- Engage in teaching activities, taking a co-/lead role on courses.
As you will work in a highly interdisciplinary group, you must also bring collaboration, critical thinking, and planning skills, backed by excellent communication skills.
In addition to being part of the Section of Design for Sustainability, you will also have the opportunity to collaborate with DTU’s pan-university Centre for Absolute Sustainability. Your new workplace will be DTU’s main campus in Kgs. Lyngby, Copenhagen.
You must be responsible for the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.
As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship and documented didactic/pedagogic training.
You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
Starting date is planned for February 2025 (or according to mutual agreement). The position is a full-time position.
