The position
As our new Data Engineer, you will support the development and professionalisation of our data foundation in Clinical Supplies (CS). You will be the key person in understanding and developing our data for the clinical supply chain in close cooperation with four systems developers. We are ready to take the next step on our data journey, and we need to take advantage of the best suited frameworks for our data going forward.
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Designing, developing, testing, and maintaining data pipelines and datasets. That includes to extract, transform and load data from the various data sources and help to integrate data transfers between internal and external systems and applications.
- Develop processes to ensure and validate data reliability and quality.
- Understanding the business stakeholders and business problems and apply your knowledge to deliver the outcomes.
- Collaborate with developers and business analysts on developing novel ways of leveraging data to create business value.
- Support users (our CS colleagues) in technical matters related to our data.
- Be part of agile teams consisting of process experts, business analysts, product owners, and developers on new project initiatives to ensure consistency in the optimal data delivery architecture.
As we are a small department, we expect you to take broad responsibility in development and maintenance of our data foundation, and you will have a large say in the choice of which tools we will use, and you will impact the solutions we develop.
Qualifications
To thrive and succeed, we expect you to have:
- Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or similar field complemented by 2-5 years of working experience with data modelling, data bricks and leverage of large volumes of data.
- Fluency in English.
- Pharmaceutical industry background is preferred.
Furthermore, we expect you to have experience with:
- Data querying, ETL tools and data warehousing solutions.
- SQL or similar relational databases (e.g. Postgres, DynamoDB).
- Big data frameworks/platform/tools like Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Lambda.
- Dealing with large and complex data sets and performance tuning.
It will be considered as advantage if you have experience with:
- NoSQL databases (e.g. HBase, Cassandra, MongoDB).
- At-least one programming language - preferably C#.
- Cloud Services (Azure DevOps, Amazon etc.).
- Version control systems - preferably Git.

About the department
Before drug is approved for market use, drug candidates are tested in clinical trials. CS is responsible for delivering drugs for Novo Nordisk’s clinical trials around the world.
Supply Chain Optimisation is a department of 25 colleagues, who work across CS and beyond and with direct link to CS Management. Our role is to carry out strategic initiatives optimising the clinical supply chain. Our way of working is informal and ambitious at the same time. We work in close cooperation with Line of Business, who are the users of our solutions, and our approach to internal IT development is agile.
We are responsible for data, IT systems and tools used for supply chain management e.g. for simulation of demand in clinical trials, pack and distribution planning, and planning of clinical trial activities. Our ambition in CS is to become fully digitalised. We want to obtain this by digitalising and using data.
