As the Head of Department for Underwater Acoustics and EIA, you will play a crucial role in our Offshore Wind Environment segment, focusing on the impact of offshore infrastructure and activities on marine biodiversity and ecology. You will provide vertical line management to a dynamic, highly scientific, and successful team engaged in solving complex environmental issues, such as noise effects on marine mammals and biodiversity changes following offshore construction.
About the Role
You will manage and grow the team, ensuring our experts have the resources and frameworks needed to excel. Your team consists of employees based in multiple countries, requiring you to coordinate across time zones and foster effective collaboration within a diverse, global team. You will work closely with project managers to align deliverables and timelines, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to meet the department’s objectives. When necessary, you will also serve as Project Manager, leading specialized teams of local and international experts to deliver projects on time and to the highest standards.
As Head of Department, you will also be responsible for growing the department's business by managing relationships with both existing and new strategic offshore wind clients. You will support senior management in executing company strategy and driving business development initiatives, actively pursuing new leads, conducting cost-benefit analyses, and creating proof-of-concept studies to strengthen strategic sales efforts. You will build and nurture strong, lasting business relationships based on accountability, integrity, and trust.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coach Specialists and Project Managers.
- Oversee staffing within the approved budget and operating model.
- Set clear performance and development goals for department employees, including onboarding activities and individual development plans.
- Lead people, facilitate collaboration, and foster team alignment.
- Focus on profitability, operations, and implementing strategy within the department.
- Collaborate with senior management to set and achieve long-term departmental goals and objectives.
- Execute department strategy and contribute to short/mid-term organizational strategy.
- Ensure policies and procedures are understood and followed.
- Manage and mitigate operational risks.
- Maintain and strengthen client relationships, ensuring satisfaction and identifying growth opportunities.
- Coordinate activities across different teams, focusing on efficiency and timely delivery.
- Foster clear communication, inspire team collaboration, and align departmental efforts with broader organizational goals.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in a leadership position, ideally with a proven track record of leading a high-performance team in a dynamic environment involving multiple projects and diverse stakeholders.
- A Master’s/PhD degree in a relevant field (e.g., Marine Ecology, Environmental Science, Biology, or similar).
- Excellent communication and reporting skills, with the ability to lead project reports and other deliverables.
- An aptitude for understanding client needs and developing tailored solutions.

- Innovative, proactive, curious, and dedicated to achieving impactful results.
- Strong collaboration skills, working effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and nationalities.

What We Offer
As part of DHI, a world-leading company committed to making a significant impact aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, you will lead a dedicated team of approximately 8 colleagues in our Offshore Biodiversity Department, working on consulting projects as well as research and development projects in an international setting. Some travel will be required, including visits to DHI subsidiaries. Salary and employment terms are based on qualifications and experience.
Location
Most of our team is based in Gdynia (Poland), making it the preferred location for this role. However, you are also welcome to join us at our offices in Hamburg (Germany) or Hørsholm (Denmark).
