MMC - Research Assistant
Founded in 1956, The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental, non-profit organization providing direct assistance to conflict-affected populations – refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs) and host communities – in more than 40 countries around the world.
The EAGL Regional Office covers the following country operations: Burundi, Djibouti, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
Overall purpose of the role:
The MMC Research Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the Mixed Migration Centre's research initiatives in Sudan. This position involves a diverse range of tasks, including quantitative data analysis, enumerator management, survey review, and other related activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring data accuracy, quality control, and timely project deliverables.
Interested candidates should have a passion for research on issues of mixed migration and understanding the experiences of refugees and migrants as they move to, within, and from East and the Horn of Africa, and Southern Africa. Responsibilities :
The MMC Research Assistant will
- Work closely with the Information Management Specialist to support MMC’s quantitative data management needs, including review of survey tools, enumerator supervision and review of incoming data;
- Conduct thorough reviews of quantitative data collected through surveys and provide feedback to enumerators with coordination with other team members
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and completeness alongside IMS
- Review completed surveys in Arabic and other relevant languages for completeness and accuracy.
- Identify and resolve any inconsistencies or errors in the data.
- Recruit, train, and supervise enumerators to ensure adherence to data collection protocols.
- Monitor enumerator performance and provide ongoing support and guidance. Provide feedback to enumerators to improve data quality.
- Address any issues or challenges that arise during data collection
- Support MMC with targeted outreach and dissemination to key migration stakeholders;
- Assist in the organization and logistics of MMC-organized evidence and learning events.

- Support the preparation of research proposals and reports.
- Contribute to the dissemination of research findings through publications and presentations.
- Support MMC’s communications needs as needed;
- Assist the team with administrative or any other tasks related to the running of MMC and its projects
- Perform other duties as assigned
Experience and Technical comptencies (included year of experience)
- BA in social sciences. Specific course work in the field of migration and in qualitative data collection and analysis is highly desirable.
- MA or MSc in the social sciences is desirable.
- At least one year experience working in quantitative;
- Excellent writing and editing skills; demonstrated ability to synthesize and condense information;
- Experience in quantitative data collection and supervision is highly desired;
- Experience in generating graphs and tables of data (Excel) is highly desirable;
- Previous experience working with international NGOs is an asset;
- Enthusiastic about learning, pushing limits, and finding new solutions;
- Strong verbal and written communication aptitude;
- Working verbal and written knowledge in Arabic is necessary;
- Strong attention to details and rigor in dealing with qualitative data.
What we offer
Contract: 6 months ccontract with the possibility of extension, subject to funding and performance.
