We have a global role in the Arla Innovation Centre (AIC) and are based in Aarhus. Our purpose is to contribute to delivering unique culture, probiotic and enzyme solutions and thereby impact Arla Foods’ Innovation agenda. In addition we proactively secure the food safety and shelf life of our dairy products in order to meet the needs of retailers of tomorrow. The team consist of 9 Scientists and 2 Technicians and is part of the Science team in Product & Innovation at Arla Foods.

Developing value-adding competences and secure product safety
You will solve safety and quality issues with focus on pathogens and spoilage microorganisms. Specifically, you will evaluate the microbiological risk of new products and processes and provide recommendations for preventive measures. Performing industrial microbiological risk assessments, including predictive modelling, is crucial.

You will have a proactive role enabling us to meet the requirements of the organization, authorities and customers - today and tomorrow. In this job you drive continued development of the competences and facilitate an understanding of the area through transfer of knowhow to stakeholders.

Another important part of your job will be to participate in internal and external innovation projects - sometimes - with a leading role - and to gather relevant and useful information. Assume a dynamic job where you will have approximately 50 yearly travel days.

The specific tasks for this role includes the following:

  • Deliver data-driven food safety solutions.
  • Develop models and tools to accelerate microbiological food safety assessments.
  • Provide technical and scientific assistance to R&D and supply chain.
  • Establish and drive internal and external collaboration with strategic partners.
  • Manage and deliver the projects.

This is a maternity cover from February 1st 2025 to February 1st 2026

Expert knowledge of microbiological risks
Most likely, you hold a PhD in Microbiology, have extensive knowledge of pathogens, spoilage microorganisms and risk assessment in food or dairy products. You also have 2-3 years practical experience.

Alternatively, you have expert knowledge within the area and extensive work experience backed by a relevant Master’s degree. All in all, you can apply your expert knowledge to develop strategic competences that add value to Arla’s products. You are proactive and curious, and you use your strategic outlook and analytical approach to provide useful information.

On top of that you are outgoing and enthusiastic about cross-organizational two-way interaction and communication. Your thrive in an international environment where scientific knowledge sharing and continuous learning are key words, and it is a natural thing for you to collaborate with colleagues and team members to reach the ambitious goals. Your IT skills cover Excel and statistical tools, and you are proficient in English.
