We are looking for a Commodity Engineer to our Supply Base Management engineering teamto play a technical key resource for all supplier related issues.
Responsibilities
As our new Commodity Engineer you will be responsible for the technical due diligence aspects of injection molding & mechanical and/or electro-mechanical components selection, creating awareness within strategic supply base of Teradyne technology needs while keeping current knowledge of industry and component technology trends updated. You are expected to:
- Lead qualification of new components through Part Qual process and First Article documents
- Drive cost down initiatives using experience to analyze and find optimization in the cost of the mechanical parts, while assuring continuous quality and reliability
- Assist the global design teams in selecting mechanical commodities for use in new designs
- Gather and review specifications of injected molded and mechanical components, maintain and update all components' information in the Teradyne PLM system
- Responsible of obsolescence processes where mechanical part is discontinued by manufacturers and replacement equivalent parts should be allocated
- Proactively work with suppliers on continuous improvement projects
- Travel as needed to work on engineering projects and visit suppliers
- Root cause analysis experience and process audit is desirable
Your profile from a technical perspective
- Minimum B.S. in injection molding, mechanical engineering with proven 5+ year experience within injection molding and mechanical manufacturing processes or closely related field is required
- Experience within; sourcing injected molded parts, injection tooling and mechanical components and material science
- Reading and interpretating mechanical technical data: drawings, specifications, high level assemblies, bill of materials, etc.
- Supplier quality management experience is desirable
- Knowledge of Statistical Quality Controls (SPC, 6-sigma, etc.) & Lean Manufacturing
- Knowledge of assisted mechanical software such as Solid Works and AutoCAD
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite: Macros and Pivot Tables in Excel is a must
- Fluent English language skills (verbal and written) required
