The University seeks to appoint an Associate Professor of Functional Proteomics to the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research to commence August 1, 2025, or after agreement.
Background
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) is an academic research Center that pioneers groundbreaking research towards better cardiometabolic health. Through collaborative interdisciplinary research from single-cell genomics to whole-body systems, CBMR aims to transform the basic understanding of cardiometabolic health and accelerate its translation into prevention and treatment strategies. The Center’s uniquely multi- and interdisciplinary approach combines research in genetics, physiology and pharmacology, to better understand the complex interplay of the many factors that drive cardiometabolic disease. CBMR was established in 2010 at the Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences and has been located in the Maersk Tower at PANUM since 2017. The around 260 employees create an international, highly collaborative research environment across disciplines.
Job description
The applicant shall be heading a research group and will be expected to conduct research within functional proteomics, including:
- Developing and applying high-resolution mass spectrometry-based proteomics workflow in the field of metabolism
- Investigating changes in protein dynamic with alteration in diet and/exercise, and describing the functional relevance
- Performing molecular studies of mechanisms underpinning obesity and type 2 diabetes
- Investigating exercise-induced secreted factors and their role in inter-organ communication.
- Investigating cell signaling and post-translational modification in the context of diabetes and exercise biology
- Investigating cell-type and organelle-specific proteome in the context of diabetes and exercise biology
The Associate Professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
- Research, including publication/academic dissemination
- Research-based teaching, including associated examination
- Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
- Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
- Academic assessments
In considering applications for the Associate Professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant’s ability to document an outstanding research and publication record, including the ability to attract research funding. The Center offers a supportive and vibrant scientific community, and the candidate should possess the ability to work collaboratively with other scientists and the scholarly qualities required for supervising graduate students.
Required qualifications
To be qualified for an Associate Professor position, you will be assessed according to these six overall criteria for recognizing merit at the University of Copenhagen: Research, teaching, societal impact, organizational contribution, external funding, and leadership. Furthermore, each applicant must be able to document:
- Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc, but may also be obtained in other ways
- Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
- Research-based teaching
The Associate Professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.
Terms of employment
The position is a full-time and permanent position. Starting date is August 1, 2025, or after agreement.
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organizations.
The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

The Dean then appoints an expert assessment committee in order to make an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific post. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
