ERC-funded Postdoc position in Reproductive Studies and Climate Coordination at the IT University of Copenhagen

Job description
The main task is to conduct research on the ERC-funded Project “REPRO-SCAPES: A Novel Approach to New Family-Forms, Assisted Reproductive Technologies, and Transnationalism. A multi-sited ethnography: Spain, Denmark, Canada and Israel”. This project is hosted by the National Research Council (CSIC) in Madrid, Spain, but located at the ITU as a partner in the project. The second task of the postdoc will be to fulfill responsibilities in the interdisciplinary Center for Climate IT, where they will act as a coordinator, planning the center’s internal and external activities. The position will run from a starting date on 1 February 2025, and until Dec 31, 2027. The division between the two tasks will be approximately equal during the first two years of the employment, while the work on the ERC project will be full-time during the last year.

Research Responsibilities:

  • To be part of the ERC project “REPRO-SCAPES” where they will be responsible for planning and conducting an ethnography on the fertility field in Denmark including such activities as writing of a literature review, doing virtual research, and interviewing of families and clinicians from major ART clinics and key NGOs representatives; developing and refining coding profiles; analyzing data.
  • To publish research articles - some co-authored with other team members - and a chapter in an edited book that will comply with the Open Access regulations that EU projects must follow and will have DOI and ISBN registration numbers.
  • To present findings in international conferences.

Center Responsibilities:

  • To create a vibrant interdisciplinary research environment in the Center
  • To plan future Center activities, catering both to students and faculty
  • To run events like seminars, writing workshops and excursions
  • To create an environment where fellow researchers can get support in realizing their initiatives and ideas
  • To maintain and develop the Center’s website
  • To run the Center’s social media accounts and newsletter
  • To create collaborations with external partners
  • To contribute to the production of the Climate IT magazine RESET
  • To coordinate with other research centers, labs and research groups

General information
The IT University of Copenhagen (ITU) is a teaching and research-based tertiary institution concerned with information technology (IT) and the opportunities it offers. The IT University has more than 160 full-time Faculty members. Research and teaching in information technology span all academic activities that involve computers including computer science, information and media sciences, humanities and social sciences, business impact, and the commercialization of IT.

About the Business IT Department
Business IT is organized in three interdisciplinary research groups Technologies in Practice, Information Systems and Digital Innovation and REFLACT. The groups share an interest in the socio-technical fabric of digitalization and digital transformation and comprise more than 30 assistant, associate, and full professors. Research at Business IT provides basis for reflecting on how digital technologies may be used mindfully and beneficially in the private and public sector. Business IT offers a BSc in Global Business Informatics, a MSc in Digital Innovation & Management, and a professional part-time master programme in IT management. It hosts three research centers Center for Digital Welfare, Center for Climate IT and European Blockchain Center in addition to two academic labs ETHOS lab and BUILD lab.

Salary and terms of employment
Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Taxation’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and job structure for academic staff at Universities.

Qualification Requirements

  • The candidate must hold a PhD degree in social anthropology with demonstrated experience in ethnography and qualitative research methods
  • The candidate must have the ability to read/speak a Scandinavian language or the willingness to learn Danish
  • The candidate will be expected to speak and publish in English, therefore documented proficiency in English is required
  • The candidate should have experience with the fertility field in Denmark
  • The candidate should be knowledgeable in the field of Climate IT
  • The candidate should have experience with interdisciplinary research
  • The candidate should have experience working in a research coordinator role
  • The candidate should be able to work independently as well as a member of a research team

The applicant will be accessed according to the Appointment Order from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of 13 March 2012.

The IT University may use shortlisting in connection with the recruitment process. In case of shortlisting, the Chair of the hiring committee selects applicants for assessment in consultation with the hiring committee after the application deadline. All applicants are notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. The shortlisting of candidates for assessment is based on the criteria in the job posting.
