As a Commercial and Contracts Manager you will take on a key role in managing customer relationships, negotiating contracts, optimising vessel planning and ensuring profitability. This position bridges the gap between operational needs and commercial goals, making it essential for maximising revenue while ensuring efficient fleet utilisation.
You will be based in Copenhagen, Denmark, but around 4-8 weeks of travel a year, to different sites, may be required for bid preparation activities as well as site set up.
What is in it for you
You will join our newly established Logistics team within the Logistics department. This new core team is responsible for realising logistics opportunities, consisting of yourself, a Senior Transshipment Specialist and a Global Operations Manager.
You will primarily be commercially focused, responsible for ensuring bid preparation, in collaboration with regional Heads, making sure that NORDEN’s functional input is integrated effectively. Triaging opportunities will also be guided by you.
A key objective will be to establish a P&L mentality in each operation in collaboration with the various internal Norden functional support teams.
While this position is in a maritime context, you may have developed your commercial experience in a variety of industries including oil and gas, mining and major infrastructure projects ideally with a marine component.
You will collaborate with a wide range of internal colleagues and will specifically be supported by Data Scientists, Legal, Insurance and Risk Managers.
The tasks that await you
We are looking for a colleague who is curious and ready to participate in building this new core team which will involve bringing innovative ideas forward and engaging with various stakeholders.
To be more specific your responsibilities will include:
- Commercial strategy and business development, where you will identify and secure new customers and cargoes, analyse market trends, competitor strategies and customer demand and set and negotiate freight rates and tariffs with customers.
- Contract management, including leading negotiations, draft contracts, in collaboration with Legal, identify and mitigate risks in contracts and monitor contract execution.
- Stakeholder coordination. You will act as the point of contact for customer and coordinate closely with Operations, Finance, and Legal.
- Performance monitoring and reporting to track KPI’s related to fleet utilisation, contract fulfilment and customer satisfaction.
- Compliance and risk management, ensuring that contracts and operations comply with regulations and laws and analyse potential risks in operations.
- Insurance and liability management of insurance arrangements for cargo and vessels.
Your competences and core qualifications
A proven understanding of contract administration is essential as these operations are managed with a great contractual focus. Ideally you will lead the negotiation of the contract with customers. Besides this you are curious and ready to participate in building this new core team which will involve bringing innovative ideas forward and engaging with various stakeholders.
Further, to thrive in this position, you:
- Have at least five years of experience working in a commercial role.
- Hold a degree in law, engineering, accounting, economics or similar.
- Are familiar with the shipping industry.
- Are familiar with contractual relationships between organisations.
- Hold strong people skills to negotiate and manage contracts.
- Can work in a team to support bid development and subsequent execution of projects.
Besides this, you should be able to see yourself in an environment where data is a cornerstone in decision making and you are open-minded towards opportunities and are prepared to engage in an entrepreneurial way.
