IT Architect
We are looking for an experienced IT architect to reinforce our team working closely with our customer EUMETSAT on designing, deploying and operating the operational ground segment IT infrastructure of EUMETSAT. This infrastructure includes computers, storage and network equipment as well as all the software that is needed to run EUMETSAT’s satellite’s missions on a 24x7 basis.
Technical tasks & Responsibilities
You will be part of the technical team responsible for the design, implementation, operations and evolutions of the operational ground segment IT infrastructure of EUMETSAT. You will be contributing to the design, evolution and operations of the EUMETSAT on-premises and hybrid services with focus on Kubernetes, Cloud and Infrastructure Automation.
Your tasks will mainly include some of the following:
- Trade-off, prototyping and design of new IT solutions based on EUMETSAT high-level user requirements:
- User requirements gathering, formalization and analysis and system requirements generation.
- Market analysis for IT solutions based in system requirements, IT roadmaps and system deployment lifecycle.
- Trade-off analysis of the relevant IT solutions and their prototyping.
- Architectural Design of a solution, including writing the relevant documentation, initiating, and following up reviews and approval loops.
- Implementation, deployment, and integration into operations of designed IT solutions:
- Deployment coordination and planning of designed IT solutions: installation, configuration and integration of HW/SW components.
- Definition of detailed Test Plan and Specifications for the verification and validation of the IT solution against requirements trace.
- Verification and Validation of infrastructure and services of deployed solution.
- Implementation of designed IT solution following EUMETSAT’s change management processes.
- Design evolutions of existing solutions including writing the relevant documentation, reviews and approval loops.
- Consultancy services based on industry best practices and evolutions:
- Studies on emerging IT architectures.
- Presentations of IT manufactures/vendors roadmap.
Depending on your seniority and role, your tasks might also include:
- Team leadership and coordination.
- Service and project management of the activities assigned to the team.
- Acting as the prime interface between EUMETSAT and TERMA for the activities related to the team area.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Fluency in English.
- Degree in IT related study.
- Good written and verbal communication and team working skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently in an organized and disciplined manner; in particular in relation to applying engineering standards and methods.
- Experience in designing, implementing and delivering large-scale enterprise IT solutions.
- Experience with administration and maintenance of Virtualization platforms (vSphere, KVM).
- Experience with administration and maintenance of Containers orchestration platforms (Kubernetes, Rancher).
- Experience with Cloud management and automation solutions (on premises and hybrid).
- Experience with distributed systems.
- Experience with management and configuration of blade server, storage and network systems integration.
- Experience in requirements elicitation, analysis and verification.
- Experience in design of highly available and secure complex systems, in a 24/7 production environment.
- Experience with creation of Architectural Design documents, Data Flow and UML diagrams.
Desirable Competencies
Experience in some of the below is considered an advantage:
- Experience in GNU/Linux administration.
- Programming or scripting experience.
- Experience in CI/CD and infrastructure as a code (e.g. Ansible, Terraform).
- Experience in developing cloud-native applications.
Work Location
This is a hybrid position with an 50% average weekly onsite presence at EUMETSAT premises in Darmstadt, Germany. Teleworking/Home office from a commuting distance to EUMETSAT for the rest of the time is possible.
