The Loads and Control department is a cornerstone for the Wind Turbine design of the most innovative solutions in the market. Together we are responsible for the development of the Next Generation Offshore Wind Turbines achieving the best trade-offs between power production and loads of our turbines.
Responsibilities
As a Loads & Control Engineer you will be responsible for:
- Perform product-level design studies within loads, including blade design iterations, tower iterations, wind turbine aeroelastic stability, etc.
- Support the certification process of wind turbines, including performing the load test campaign in the prototype wind turbine
- Feasibility studies of new wind turbine products aiming to optimize power, loads, and noise performance through innovative use of sensors, controllers and actuators
- Delivering design loads, power curves, and noise assessments
- Development and validation of wind turbine aeroelastic models
- Guide the technical aspects of loads development for a specific product from feasibility state to full validation and certification stage
- Risk management activities, such as failure mode and effect analysis
Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD. in Mechanical/Aerospace/Aeronautics Engineering or similar
- 5-8 years of work experience within the wind turbine design industry or at MSc./PhD level
- Previous industrial/academic (at MSc or PhD level) experience in wind turbine controls
- Knowledge of wind turbine control strategies
- Experience in programming, at least one of the following: Matlab, Simulink, Python
Competencies
You have experience in:
- The wind industry, specifically controls background: control feature development, validation and calibration
- Simulink and Code Generator
- Working in a project execution environment: milestones, deadlines, timeline
- Engaging with multiple stakeholders
- Communicating in diverse settings and fluency in English (spoken and written)

This is a hybrid position based in Porto, Portugal.
