Research Associate (laborant) in Fermentation, Bagsværd
Novozymes A/S - Novonesis
Are you ready for a new beginning?
We need your talent, knowledge and dedication to better our world with biology.
Our purpose points the way
In Novonesis, we know that solutions rooted in biology can help solve humanity’s biggest challenges. Since we began more than a century ago, this has been our guide. It’s how we've gotten so far. And it’s how we'll impact the future. Now, more than ever, the world needs change. And with biosolutions, the possibilities for transformation are endless.
We’re here to better our world with biology.
Join us as our new (Senior) Research Associate (laborant) in Fermentation
We are looking for a new dedicated colleague to join our team in Fermentation Technology. As our new (senior) research associate (laborant) you will be part of an agile team, collaborating across disciplines within molecular biology, enzyme assays, automation, and small-scale fermentation. You and your team will deliver new enzyme-producing strains using a combination of manual and automated workflows.
Welcome to Fermentation Technology, a part of Production Strain Technology
In Fermentation Technology, we identify the optimal new production strain candidates from the molecular biology departments in Production Strain Technology (PST). Together, we develop and use state-of-the-art expression technology to make high-yielding production strains in microbial hosts. Once a strain is selected, fermentation methods are optimized before the processes and strains are upscaled to Fermentation Pilot Plant. PST is part of the functional area Enzyme, Protein & Strain Engineering Research in R&D.
In this role you’ll make an impact by:
- In collaboration with scientists in the department execute cultivation experiments with microbial organisms in highly instrumented and automated laboratory bioreactors up to 2L volume
- Using digital solutions to prepare for running and documenting the above experiments.
- Follow up on cultivations in terms of analyzing samples by in-house methods or coordinating sample handling for external analysis
- Participate in giving feedback/sparring to strain constructors in the team based on data from cultivations
- Perform micro-scale fermentations, SDS-PAGE, and enzyme assays using automated liquid handlers
- Do aseptic handling of microorganisms, including purity tests, viability tests, screening for activity or specific cellular properties by use of microscopy or flow cytometry.
- Contribute to the overall function of the laboratory by taking part in general maintenance and improvement of routines, procedures and equipment.
- Work responsibly and diligently on planned experiments, independently or in a team set-up
To succeed you must hold:
- Hold a relevant education as laboratory associate (laborant), technician or similar.
- Have experience working with microorganisms and aseptic handling of these.
- Have experience with process related laboratory work and have a go-do mindset to solve technical problems
- Have experience with fermentation processes and running small scale bioreactors.
- Take initiative and show responsibility for delivering high-quality work.
- Be able to work in a team as well as independently, with a high degree of transparency.
- Have a positive and social mindset, preferably with a good sense of humor.
Additionally, it would be advantageous for the candidate to:
- Possess a basic level of scripting capabilities.
- Have experience from working with automated liquid handlers
