Postdoc in Transforming High-Performance AI Servers with Advanced Magnetic Integration for DC-DC Power Converters – DTU Electro

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)

A 2-year fully funded Postdoc position is available in the Electronics group at DTU Electro from 1 February 2025. The project is a part of project H3PMAG funded by ERC Consolidator grant from the European Research Council.
We warmly welcome dedicated researchers who are fueled by ambition and a zeal to join us in forging new frontiers in power electronics. An exciting opportunity awaits you at the Electronics group at DTU Electro. From 1 February 2025, we are offering a 2-year fully funded Postdoctoral position, supported by the esteemed ERC Consolidator grant from the European Research Council.

The primary challenge in powering AI processors and GPUs is enhancing the efficiency of voltage regulator modules (VRMs) to meet their substantial power demands, driven by the processing of vast amounts of data. As part of the ERC project H3PMAG, this project aims to address key challenges in the direct conversion of 48 V to 1 V PoL converters, focusing on efficiency, power density, and dynamic response. The research will concentrate on optimizing magnetic components and revolutionizing their integration and packaging solutions.

Responsibilities and qualifications
In this project, you will explore innovative solutions for circuit topology in 48 V to 1 V single-stage power conversion and novel magnetic integration for very high-current (>1000 A) DC-DC power converters. The scope includes topology selection, magnetics optimization, and high-bandwidth controller design.

Your primary tasks will include:

  • Designing circuit schematics and creating novel magnetic integrations.
  • Conducting circuit simulations (LTspice or PSIM) and FEM simulations (ANSYS Maxwell) to determine optimal parameters (e.g., inductance, frequency, AC resistance).
  • Selecting suitable semiconductors and gate drivers.
  • Developing packaging solutions for magnetic components and power converters.
  • Prototyping and testing in the lab.

You will also contribute to teaching and supervising BSc and MSc student projects, and be co-supervisor for PhD students.

You will be a part of a research team, and should possess strong teamwork skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues from diverse technical backgrounds.

We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment, and we encourage applicants of all genders to apply, especially those who share our vision of shaping the future of power electronics. Join us in this exciting venture to lead scientific advancements and educate the next generation of engineers.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
