Københavns Universitet (KU)

Associate Professor in Metabolomics for Nutrition and Microbiome Research
Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports
Faculty of Science

University of Copenhagen

Are you an expert in analytical chemistry and metabolomics interested in contributing to our ambitious efforts within the fields of nutrition, microbiome and cardiometabolic disease? Are you determined to develop your own lines of research, but also to take part in our high-performing and collaborative team? Then you might be our new colleague!

We seek a highly qualified researcher in analytical chemistry and metabolomics for nutrition and microbiome research to join the Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports at the University of Copenhagen. The position is temporary for 3 years and is available from 1 October 2025.

The associate professor’s duties will primarily include research, including obligations with regard to publication and scientific communication as well as research-based teaching within analytical chemistry and metabolomics, with associated examinations. The associate professor will contribute to the continuous development of liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS) methods and applications of metabolomics in several externally funded research projects in the fields of nutrition, microbiome and cardiometabolic health, supervision of PhD/postdocs, and applications for research funding.
In particular, the applicant should:

  • Be fluent in English since this is the working language in the research group.
  • Have very strong experience with analytical chemistry and metabolomics based on LC-MS, documented by publications in peer-reviewed, international scientific journals.
  • Have a PhD degree in Chemistry, Metabolomics or other relevant fields.
  • Have documented experience with applications of analytical chemistry in nutrition, microbiome and/or cardiometabolic disease research.
  • Have experience with obtaining research grants.

Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required. Experience with teaching metabolomics is an advantage.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.

Six overall criteria apply for associate professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for an overall assessment of the candidates. Furthermore, each candidate must be assessed according to the specific requirements stated in the job advertisement.
