Mechanical Technician for AD e-Cooler (SY-BI-ML-2025-140-GRAE)

Your responsibilities
Are you a Mechanical Technician at the beginning of your career? Join the Mechanics and Logistics (ML) Section within the Beam Instrumentation (BI) Group at CERN!

The SY-BI-ML Section is in charge of the development, electro-mechanical design, construction, installation and maintenance of instrumentation made under the responsibility of the BI group, R&D, testing and qualification of new materials and methods for beam instrument production, as well as group-wide coordination of installation and shutdown planning and support in mechanical production and analysis.

As a Mechanical Technician, you will oversee the reception, quality inspection, and storage of all ADEC mechanical components.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Procuring commercial components and preparing the assembly area;
  • Participating in both the dry and final assembly of the ADEC mechanical structure;
  • Assisting in dismantling the old AD e-Cooler;
  • Managing the installation logistics of the ADEC machine.

Your profile
Skills:

  • Experience with producing and reading mechanical drawings;
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings for assembly;
  • Experience with performing mechanical assemblies;
  • Experience with product life cycles, quality management and production follow-up;
  • Basic knowledge of CAD would be an advantage.
  • Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanics (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree are not eligible.

Additional Information
Job closing date: 07.09.2025 at 23:59 CEST.
Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week

Target start date: 01-November-2025

This position involves:

  • Work in Radiation Areas.
  • Interventions in underground installations.
  • A valid driving licence.
  • Exposure to risk of falling from heights during scaffolding assembly and dismantling operations.
  • Use of certain mobile work equipment or equipment used for lifting loads (lifting equipment, bridge cranes, aerial work platforms, etc.) requiring a driving authorisation.
  • Operations on electrical installations or in their vicinity (over 1000 Volt AC or 1500 Volt DC) requiring a specific authorisation.

Given the occupational health risks associated with this position, the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed.
