System Engineer – Advanced Missions

GomSpace A/S

What if your next mission helped shape the future of advanced technology missions, secure satellite communication, and deep-space resilience?

At our newly formed Advanced Missions Business Unit, we’re building the missions that don’t exist yet — and we’re looking for a talented System Engineer to help us do it.

This is your chance to join a team working at the frontiers of space — where each design choice has long-term impact, and where your contributions will directly influence how we explore, protect, and connect across and beyond Earth orbit.

Your Role
You’ll work at the core of our Advanced Missions team, collaborating closely with the Head of Business Unit, Head of Innovation and experts across payload, AIV, and software domains. From mission concept to proposal phase, you’ll ensure our designs are not just technically sound, but resilient, reliable, and ready for the challenges of tomorrow.

You won’t just support space missions — you’ll help define them.

Your tasks include

  • Assuring mission concepts in areas like advanced technology missions, SDA, and secure communications by embedding safety, reliability, and quality principles from the very first sketches.
  • Shaping and leading feasibility studies, phases A and technical trade-offs, guiding decisions with strong Product Assurance input, risk analysis, and ECSS-compliant thinking.
  • Technically driving proposal and bid excellence, by tailoring quality plans and verification strategies that strengthen our competitive edge.
  • Collaborating across engineering teams to maintain alignment, traceability, and mission-wide consistency in quality assurance.
  • Exploring new technologies and methods — from AI-driven reliability analysis to digital verification tools — and applying them to next-gen deep-space systems.

Short- and Long-Term Success
In the first months, success means:

  • Becoming fully embedded in the Advanced Missions team and understanding project priorities and internal workflows.
  • Supporting project managers with timely and high-quality input to keep projects on track.
  • Beginning to actively shape technical decisions in current projects.

Longer term, you’ll

  • Support project delivery across scope, quality, and cost targets.
  • Strengthening our position as the partner of choice for advanced technology and deep-space missions.
  • Influence our strategic footprint and play a key role in growing our mission portfolio and market share.

What You Bring
You’re a curious and forward-thinking system engineer with a passion for pushing boundaries and building systems that are robust in the face of the unknown. You understand the critical role of quality in early mission design and thrive when given the opportunity to shape projects from the ground up.

You likely:

  • Hold a degree in engineering or similar technical field.
  • Have 3–7 years of experience in technical roles within the space industry.
  • Are confident using tools like STK, GMAT, or MATLAB to support system-level analysis.
  • Understand how to apply ECSS standards and ESA lifecycles effectively.
  • Communicate clearly, document rigorously, and collaborate naturally across disciplines.
  • Thrive on building bold, reliable solutions in complex and uncertain environments.

Who You Are
You’re not just technically strong — you think systemically, work proactively, and care about both process and people. You seek alignment early, question assumptions, and strive to improve both the product and the way we build it.

You bring:

  • Helpfulness – you share knowledge freely and lift those around you.
  • Open communication – you’re direct, clear, and constructive in your approach.
  • True leadership – you take responsibility and lead by example, with or without a title.
  • Structure & clarity – you bring order to ambiguity and help others see the big picture.
  • Human insight – you understand how teams work best and adapt your style to foster collaboration.

You’re excited to join a place where your work directly feeds into real missions — missions that could define the next decade of space exploration.
