Software Systems Engineer
MyDefence A/S
Do you want to turn complex systems into real-world technology that protects lives?
Then join MyDefence Ukraine as our new Software Systems Engineer.
At MyDefence, we create technology the world has never seen before. We defined the man-portable drone detector and pioneered the first hands-free drone jammer. Now, we are expanding our horizons and launching our engineering presence in Ukraine. We are looking for a Software Systems Engineer to be among the first to help establish our technical footprint in Kyiv. You will play a key role in developing, integrating, and testing software for advanced Counter-UAS (CUAS) systems, turning ideas into field-proven prototypes that work where it matters most. This is more than a job. It is an opportunity to build something new – both in software and in team spirit.
What You Will Do
IIn this role, you will design, implement, and test software and firmware that drive our next-generation CUAS systems, ensuring every component works seamlessly from lab to field.
- Design and build firmware for electronic sensor or jammer systems to be tested in the field.
- Develop robust software and embedded code for prototypes that must perform under demanding conditions.
- Define software and subsystem interfaces, data flows, and integration architecture between sensors, communication subsystems, and command-and-control (C2) applications.
- Collaborate closely with our Danish R&D team and multidisciplinary colleagues in Ukraine to test and refine prototype products.
- Lead or support system integration activities – installing, configuring, and troubleshooting integrated hardware–software systems.
- Conduct lab and field testing, analyse results, and iterate for reliability and performance.
- Document builds, testing data, and provide input to our product development teams in Denmark.
What You Bring
You are a systems-minded software engineer who thrives where innovation meets execution – analytical, adaptable, and motivated by building solutions that make a difference in the real world.
Your Professional Background
We imagine you have:
- A BSc/MSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or similar experience.
- 3+ years of experience in software systems engineering, embedded programming, or integration roles.
- Strong programming skills – e.g. C/C++, Python, or Java.
- Experience with real-time or embedded systems, and ideally sensor or communication-based architectures.
- Understanding of networked systems, communications protocols, and data links (C2, sensor fusion, etc.).
- Good knowledge of Linux/Unix (and/or Windows) environments and mixed hardware/software development setups.
- Ability to analyse system performance, debug integrated systems, and troubleshoot complex hardware–software interactions.
- English and Ukrainian proficiency (required).
- Experience in CUAS, UAV, or defence software systems (preferred).
- Knowledge of military or ruggedised standards (an advantage).
- Willingness to undergo a background check as part of our commitment to security and responsible innovation (required).
Who You Are
- You are detail-oriented, curious, and collaborative.
- You enjoy bringing complex systems together, finding solutions across disciplines, and seeing your code come to life in real-world conditions.
- You thrive in fast-paced, hands-on environments where precision and creativity go hand in hand.
- And you are based in Ukraine, with easy access to our new Kyiv office, located centrally and close to a metro station.
What We Offer You
At MyDefence, you will join a company built on innovation, trust, and purpose. You will help shape how we work in Ukraine, supported by an experienced international team that values creativity, technical excellence, and collaboration.
You can expect:
- The freedom to innovate from concept to tested prototype.
- A close partnership with our Danish engineering team.
- Access to advanced tools, labs, and test environments.
- A flexible, hybrid work setup that supports balance and autonomy.
- Competitive salary, paid lunch, and opportunities for growth and development.
- A strong, mission-driven culture where your work makes a real impact.
“We collaborate closely with the frontlines around the world to turn evolving drone threats into reliable detections in our software stack - spanning from embedded devices to server solutions with front- and backend. No day is the same, and limits are constantly pushed to new heights in the face of electronic warfare”
— Mads Ramsgaard Munk, Senior Software Engineer
