Opportunity
A 2-year postdoctoral fellowship position is available for a researcher who wishes to contribute to an ongoing translational project in type 1 diabetes (T1D). The successful candidate will join the Translational Omics and Islet Biology research team led by Senior Researcher Joachim Størling. The project focuses on uncovering the inflammatory and immune-mediated pathways that lead to dysfunction and loss of pancreatic islet cells in T1D, with particular emphasis on the early, inflammation-driven stages of disease development. We are looking for a dedicated and curious scientist who is eager to explore these mechanisms and take an active role in advancing the project’s experimental and conceptual progress.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-quality original research and contribute to data analysis in the project.
  • Collaborate with team members to publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present results at internal meetings and relevant international conferences.
  • Assist in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Support grant writing and reporting as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Obtained PhD degree in a relevant field, e.g. diabetes research, metabolic research, biomedical sciences, or related disciplines.
  • Strong background in T1D, pancreatic islet biology and immunology.
  • Prior experience with primary human cells and pancreatic islet experimentation, including islet handling, culture, and various functional assays.
  • Prior experience in relevant biochemical and functional assays (e.g., ELISA/MSD, western blotting, apoptosis/lytic cell death assays, staining and imaging).

Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research.

  • A publication record in relevant area in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and ability to work in a collaborative research environment
  • FELASA A/B/D certification

Terms and Benefits
Duration: 2 years (with possible extension, depending on funding and performance).
Location: Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen, Herlev, Denmark.
Starting date: 1st of January 2026.
As part of the recruitment procedure, the candidate’s qualifications will be assessed by an academic assessment committee. The employment is in accordance with the Capital Regions collective agreements.
