Android Audio Engineer for the Video Systems Development Centre (R&D) at GN/Jabra, based in Ancona, Italy.
Position Overview
In the role as an Android Audio Engineer, you will contribute to our purpose of Bringing People Closer. You’ll collaborate closely with audio/video and embedded sw developers in Ancona, in our headquarters in Denmark, as well with other international teams in Europe and USA.
Join our innovative team and play a key role in developing groundbreaking audio technologies like echo cancellation, noise reduction, dereverberation, low-bitrate codecs, and more. Collaborate with global experts in research, computer vision, haptics, and social interaction to redefine future of video communication.
The Team You Will be Part of
- You will be part of a global engineering organization with skilled hardware, firmware and tester team members focusing on audio/video products.
- The team works closely with the Video Business Unit to provide the “innovation muscle” and grant growth. The team has end-to-end accountability for the delivery of innovation to the BU, delivering products on time, cost, scope, and quality, in full alignment with the Video Systems Division and road maps.
Your contribution is appreciated, and you will:
- Ensure that all releases meet quality standards and are free of critical defects.
- Ensure that all releases comply with certification requirements from major players such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google.
- Enhance audio performance, latency, reliability, and user experience.
Your tasks
- Design, develop, and maintain audio features and components for Android platforms, including HAL/HIDL/AIDL and middleware integration.
- Integrate and optimize audio DSP algorithms and control structures for Android devices.
- Develop and debug audio routing, volume control, and mode handling in Android OS.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of audio features with hardware and other software components.
- Conduct unit, integration, and system-level testing of audio features, including automated test development.
- Analyze and resolve audio-related bugs, performance issues, and certification requirements (e.g. Google, Zoom, Microsoft Teams).
- Participate in product design reviews and PI Planning, providing input on functional requirements, product designs, schedules, and potential problems.
- Document and maintain technical specifications, design documents, and test plans.
- Stay up to date with new audio technologies, Android releases, and industry best practices.
- Support external test labs for certification and release purposes.
- Participate in bug triages, providing input on reproducibility or severity of audio bugs.
- Support the product development process from scoping, requirements, development, verification, and release.
To thrive in this position, we envision that you:
- Have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
- Good experience with Android audio framework development, including HAL/HIDL/AIDL, Audio Flinger, and ALSA architecture.
- Experience with design and optimization of real-time audio algorithms for Android systems, with a focus on Audio HAL and AOSP.
- Solve complex challenges to enhance performance, quality, and reliability across devices.
- Deep knowledge of audio signal processing and auditory perception.
- Good experience with embedded audio DSP development, integration, and debugging.
- Demonstrated ability in C/C++, Java, Python, and familiar with Android development tools (Android Studio, AOSP, Git, Jenkins, JIRA).
- Proficient understanding of audio routing, volume control, and mode management in Android OS.
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills, establish good relationships, generate motivation, and negotiate priorities.
- Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills in English with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrate emotional intelligence, diplomacy, and an ability to adjust to new circumstances, are proficient in forming relationships, great teammate, open to new experiences, creative with the ability to work on own initiatives.
- Are willing to join engaged engineering teams with a culture of feedback, open communication, and team orientation.
- Have familiarity with test case management tools and defect tracking systems (JIRA, Azure DevOps, Jama).
- Knowledge of software development life cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies (SAFe, SCRUM).
- Have experience with audio certification processes and requirements for Android devices.
- Have experience with debugging tools and performance profiling.
- Are team-oriented, supportive, creative, and able to work collaboratively with others.
- Leaving in Ancona or surrounding (no relocation fees).
