Research Assistant in Design of Biomanufacturing Processes using AVEVA Process Simulation - DTU Chemical Engineering

We are looking for a highly motivated Research Assistant with strong competencies in mathematical modelling, fermentation process simulation and AVEVA Process Simulator (APS) to support the development of end-to-end process design capabilities for sustainable biomanufacturing.
Responsibilities
Your overall focus will be to strengthen the department’s competencies with computational modeling and design of biomanufacturing processes, including fermentation and pharmaceutical processes. You will work with nearby colleagues and with both academic and industrial partners in Denmark and abroad. Your primary tasks will be:
Specific tasks include:
- Develop and document mathematical models for fermentation and pharma-based processes.
- Implement these models in AVEVA process simulator (APS).
- Validate these models with relevant pharma and fermentation industrial case studies
- Consolidate these models into a biomanufacturing model library in the APS.
- Create tutorials for the use of the biomanufacturing library
- Presentation plans and results in group meetings
Required qualification:
- MSc (or equivalent) in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering.
- Excellent communication in written and spoken English is required.

Specific qualification:
- Solid background in mathematical modeling, process design and optimization, techno-economic analysis.
- Proven experience in using AVEVA process simulator (APS) and Python.
- Good understanding of the different phenomena taking place in manufacturing industry at process level, e.g., bioreaction kinetics, mass transfer in liquid-gas reaction systems, and thermodynamics.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
The period of employment is 12 months (from 1 January to 31 December 2026).

The Process and System Engineering Center (PROSYS) at DTU Chemical Engineering focuses on conducting research and providing education to advance technologies for future more sustainable (Bio)chemical production processes.
