Master of Fine Arts from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA) awarded in 2015. I completed multiple contemporary art theory courses, metal casting, and experimental filmmaking at PAFA. My Thesis Exhibition was a 250 foot square installation suspended from the staircase. Visitors walked through my huge multi-layered artwork made from recycled materials - the first of its kind allowed at the prestigious school. PAFA also commissioned me to create three different sculpture projects while I was a student.

My work experience

Art & Entrepreneurship Teacher

Workshop School (USA)

I was lucky to write and teach my original Art & Entrepreneurship curriculum for high school seniors (teenagers entering the workforce). Students came up with a business idea and presented them to me for approval. Once a student's business idea reached feasibility, I guided them through prototyping and packaging their products. At the end of the trimester, students opened their businesses to the public at a Maker Fair. Most students sold out of their entire stock that day, and many students continued their businesses after graduation!

I was also Makerspace Manager in charge of maintaining all tools, machines, and safety of 3 studio spaces (including CNC and laser engravers, traditional woodshop machines, and other hand tools).

Art & Entrepreneurship Teacher

TECH Freire Charter School (USA)

At TECH, I created my first Entrepreneurship curriculum for high school students. Here I learned lots on the job - teaching kids graphic design, laser engraving and specialty printing, and marketing.

Students knew me best for my after-school sculpture program "WRECK Room", where young artists created and destroyed artwork together. Knowing that my students in North Philadelphia were experiencing economic hardship with little outlet for expression, I made a safe space for kids to take out their anger and frustrations. The club was most popular with the youngest men at school; without outdoor time or accessible resources for mental health, the boys needed stuff to break! One of our most exciting projects was to repair and build school furniture as part of a restorative justice program. If a student was caught destroying furniture, they were sent to me to help make amends - literally.

Therapeutic Arts Coordinator

Broad Street Ministry

I taught weekly visual arts programming as well as introduced new art therapies like Movement Workshop and Poetry. Visitors to our building suffered from multiple intersecting needs like homelessness, food insecurity, and government identification cards. After visitors were served a beautiful homemade meal, they would go to my arts programming for soul nourishment.

As liaison to outside arts partners, I was always excited to see how we could get involved in Philadelphia's amazing cultural scene. One of the most exciting projects there was with the Philadelphia Museum of Art and PHL Assembled. Community organizations like Broad Street Ministry attempted to capture what Philadelphia's current arts and human rights movements are all about. As a literal sanctuary, BSM was invited to the Sanctuaries Team to explore what 'sanctuary' means to a social service organization like us. Over the course of several months, we met with community leaders and neighbors to advance our notions of what and who are sanctuaries. Trauma-informed care and harm-reduction models are the core of how BSM operates, and we got daily practice with hundreds of visitors.

I also curated a public gallery show of visitor artwork which raised over $4000 USD for my programs, equaling more than 1 year of BSM's Arts budget.
