About the job
As Lead Systems Engineer in the Programs Business Unit, you will be leading a team of systems engineers for the new GomSpace Indonesian constellation. The scope of the mission is to deliver a solution to enable the “Satellite Constellation Mission to Support Monitoring of Marine and Fisheries Resources” program in Indonesia. GomSpace will deliver 20 satellites and data processing software. The constellation consists of 3 satellite designs: one for Earth Observation, one for RF Monitoring (Signal Intelligence), and one for VDES (next generation radio communication for ships, shore stations and satellites). The direct contract value for GomSpace for the scope outlined is 59 MEUR.
As Lead Systems Engineer you will be responsible for the overall system design and architecture, and you will be the prime technical point of contact to the customer.
The role has a broad technical span, meaning that you will be involved in the various disciplines from spacecraft requirements definition to in-space commissioning. This includes hardware and software designs, integration, power budgets, mechanical design, manufacturing and more, naturally in a close collaboration with specialized colleagues in each field.
Responsibilities include:
- Leadership of the project’s systems team
- Mission and spacecraft system architecture and design
- Preparation of documentation according to applied space engineering standards
- Technical involvement in all aspects of mission and spacecraft design, from requirement management to spacecraft integration and verification
- Manage internal and external interfaces (payload, ground segment, launcher, etc.)
- Several touchpoints and interfaces with the product organization and other departments in e.g. Denmark, Luxemburg, Sweden, France and North America
- Collaborate with company internal counterparts in other Business Units and at other geographical locations
- Being involved in both high-level design and hands-on development/implementation
This position is based in Aalborg (Denmark) or Luxemburg. The expected travel activity is 15-20 days per year. We are very open to international applicants.

To succeed in the role, several years of experience with highly complex system design is desired. We prefer experience with spacecraft design, but related fields such as defense systems, radio communication, signal intelligence are also considered relevant.
An educational background in aerospace engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, system design or similar is also required in order to fill the position.
An interest in new space technology and technology trends in general, are also important to both succeed and enjoy being a part of GomSpace. Perhaps you are specialized in one of the aforementioned fields today but have an interest in expanding the range of responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Relevant engineering education (preferably MSc level or higher) and/or professional high-tech experience.
- Previous experience in space systems engineering, spacecraft, and mission design.
- Knowledge of Space Systems: Strong understanding of space systems, including satellites, spacecraft, launch vehicles, and related technologies.
- Systems Engineering Skills: Proficiency in systems engineering principles and methodologies, such as requirements analysis, system architecture, integration, verification, and validation.
- Experience with CAD tools (SOLIDWORKS or similar).
- Experience with mission analysis tools (STK, GMAT or similar).
- Programming and Scripting: Depending on the specific role, familiarity with programming languages or scripting languages may be beneficial (e.g. Python, Matlab).
- Systematic and proactive approach.
- Strong quality awareness, understanding of quality assurance processes and standards in the aerospace industry.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex technical challenges.
- Risk Management: Ability to identify and mitigate risks associated with space missions or projects.
- Able to deliver on time, or to report any deviations proactively.
- Able to quickly expand application-specific skills and familiarize oneself with new responsibilities.
- Results-oriented, autonomous, and analytical.
- Fluent in English on a professional level (speaking, reading, and writing).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, including non-technical stakeholders.
- Able to work both independently and in a team environment, in cooperation with systems and subsystems engineers in multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience in customer-facing and explaining complicated technologies in easily understandable terms.
Previous experience with delivering work according to ESA ECSS or similar NASA standards will be considered an asset.
